Pulled the 7100 off the charger this morning and the dim screen read "Patriot Link Fail".

Any ideas what this means or what impending doom I can expect?

Thats a new one. I haven't heard of this. I did a search both here and on google which didn't give any results. Are you sure it said exactly that?

Yep, I wrote it down when I saw it. I am current at 4.1.0.376 as of last week.

No special programs, just Telenav, Lotus Sametime, but pretty basic.

i got that error after i removed mini opera i pulled the battery out and put it back in and it works just fine.

I've had it come up on my blackberry twice now. A nextel data rep got it too. I think it has something to do with the new software. I don't think its anything really to be worried about it doesn't really seem to be harming anything other than my patience. I have intentions on speaking with data. Don't know when il'l be on again...so just leave me a message and I'll keep ya posted.

I just got this error this morning too. I just tried out Opera Mini 3.0 and then deleted it.

The other third party applications I have are: TeleNav, My-Cast Weather, Google Maps, BB Light and HP 10B calculator emulator.

I am current with the 7100i software.

My initial thought is that it might have something to do with Opera?

I haven't got it yet. But I did download a new version of Opera Mini 3.0 on my phone. So now I have two chances to get it. I will keep you posted and wanted an easy way to follow this thread. So I am writing.

I have gotten this error as well. I first noticed it about 3 weeks ago and did a search on here and on Google and got nothing. I am sorry to say this but Im glad others are now reporting the problem as well.

I do also have Mini Opera 3.0 on my BB

i dont think its mini opera but it just happend to come up after a hard reboot.after i did that.

I have been able to reproduce this. With my BlackBerry, the patriot link failure error only pops up when my machine Auto On's in the morning. It does not do it from a battery removal. Play around with setting the time and it is reproducable.

Yes, mine seems to occur in the mornings after I auto on/off. Happened again this weekend.

I just updated my 7100i's software yesterday and this morning it came on the screen. I pulled the battery and so far it's okay. I don't use Opera. The only extras I have on the BB is BB Maps and TeleNav. I think it has something to do with the new software.

I think it's a government backdoor exploit into the devices... might want to check your personal dealings and verify that you have no skeletons.
