Question Instant Messaging Recommendation

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I need a recommendation, I have tired quiet a few applications for Instant Messaging. I mostly use AIM, I have tried Ramble, IM+, OZ & Yak-On. Here is the problem I found on these applications.

Ramble - Great Application, but disconnects me from time to time
IM+ - Great Application, but disconnects me from time to time
Yak On - This application seems to have quiet few bugs, not bad.

I don't know what is causing the disconnection of the app it usually happens when I place a call and then hang up. It reconnects I don't know if it is normal with BlackBerry Devices. Im just looking for an application similar to the one like the Sidekick. If someone can help me out and make a recommendation of what app I should use for AIM it would be greatly appreciated . I thank you guys so much, since I have joined this forum. I learned alot about the RIM Devices. I read some information about using GoogleTalk for AIM. How does that work, can anyone private message me or let me know what I have to do to configure it to work that way. Also is it normal??? To reconnect to AIM...The application is running in the background if I place a call or recieve a call and answer when I hang up it reconnects, this happens to several apps I used on the Blackberry????

Thanks,
GQ NYC

I have a small universe of family and friends I talked to. We all switched to Yahoo Messenger and I use the tool from RIM. I have tried all the freeware, and tested the others, and like Yahoo Messenger the best. Great reliability and function

The RIM yahoo messenger and gtalk are rock solid..they work really well...!!!
As the 3rd party app..I like the Verichat the best...it never gets disconnected!! You can have yahoo messenger, gtalk, AIM, msn and icq with it!! "unfortunately", they discontinuted selling it!!!

I agree about Ramble and I just removed it last night. Some days its solid and works well and others I am disconnected 3-4+ times a day for no reason I can figure out. The only advantage Ramble has over OZ and the others IM's is it uses DATA and not sms so you dont need a larger txt/pic plan with it.

I am now just using the OZ AIM and have not noticed any problems other than it doesnt always refresh fast enough when you open it. No diconnects with it and no problems when your using it. Just do a manual refresh when you open it.

Thumbs down I'm having problems too.

I tried re-downloading it last night, too and there was a server error, specifically a java error (they apparently use apache).

Maybe they are putting out a new version (hopefully, to support the new features of GTalk) and this is just a side effect and it will be up soon.

I think the OZ AIM uses SMS so I hope your plan is unlimited.

For multinetwork use, Webmessenger and IM+ both work. WM is more stable and has the most features.

Just posted this on another forum, but as a reminder if you go through Google Talk website from your computer, you're not actually downloading a file which you save then upload to the DM.
Instead, have your BB plugged in through USB and have the desktop manager closed as you're accessing GoogleTalk from the website. It will then transfer it into your BB through the website.

As far as the disconnect issues go with IM+, I never had a problem with them. My suggestion is to screw letting the program detect it's own settings. Set the connection option to TCP/IP instead of HTTP and don't forget to set your APN settings as well. It's 200x better than HTTP connection. Hope that helps!

Have been using VeriChat for almost a year - looks like they won't be renewing anyone. Too bad as I liked it a lot; never had a single problem with it. Test flying WebMessenger now. It looks good so far.

soo Google talk Gtalk or Googletalk ( 15 different ways to spell the same thing.. LOL) will work with the pearl?

I noticed that the specs dont include the 8100 for googletalk for blackberries so I thought I would ask.
