Default ESC key; I activate it by mistake

Please Login to Remove!

I often activate the esc key by mistake when picking up the BB from a desk or pocket or even when handling the device.

It is very easily activated unlike the click feature on the trackwheel. Has anyone else the same problem and if so how did they work around it?

I'm intersted about this as well. As a new BB convert I am always hitting the key too. My wife hates using it as a phone because she always hangs up on her calls. I know you will get used to it, but...

I suppose using key lock would help although it's a nuisance but that would not help when the BB is in use as your wife finds. Seems as if a determined effort not to pick it up in the most ergonomic way is required!

If you are using a newer BlackBerryOS, you have to hold the key down before it hangs up ... That might make your wife happy, since a brief accidental press won't hang up the phone.

(This varies by BlackBerryOS)

using the 7520 I (too) often go to click the trackwheel to answer call but end up turning it a click to the "IGNORE" call right before clicking on it and ending the call. guess I just need to be more carefull or get used to it.

My friend used to compain about that when he had the original Sidekick (the Sidekick II has <send> and <end> buttons). That was one of the main reasons I got the 7100g instead of the 7290 -- those 2 buttons make using the phone much much easier. In all other aspects, I actually preferred the 7290.

The escape key can be a hassle, but you do get used to it quickly. However, I am willing to deal with the VERY SELDOM mishaps with the escape key and keep the large keyboard. I wouldnt get switch up. The keyboard is essential.

I too have this dilemma on my 7250. I hang up on my wife all the time. YES YES, by accident. Thought I would get used to it, but alas, my fat fingers and hands just don't seem to work as well anymore. This prompted the purchase of a couple of bluetooth accessories... not nearly as many "accidents" when using those.

The keyboard is wonderful - no more tapping with a stylus or trying to use that awful texting. Also all the shortcuts are so efficient.

Yes, the stylus is rediculous. The scroll wheel and keyboard together make a great device. The esc key is annoying but you got to give a little to get a litte.

Love the scroll wheel, but I think my thumb is permanently indented!
