Smile Differences I have seen between Tmobile and 8100-Rogers-4.1.0.61

Please Login to Remove!

Tmobile-
-able to turn off auto dimming.
-Voice activation did not work with names! only numbers were recognized.

Rogers Upgrade-
-Not able to turn of auto dimming.
-New link in browser called "Add Web Feed" - Built in RSS
-Ringer issue is fixed
-Trackball movement when phone rings fixed.
-Took an extra 3 seconds to get into my media pictures area... that 3 seconds created a new folder called "myfavs"... I do not have the myfavs service. After the phone took thumbnails of my pictures it was instant to get into the folders... think windows..
-Voice Activation- Now works with names... first time loaded, it scanned my addressbook. It never did that with the tmobile version.
-Holding the asterik to lock the phone is a second quicker... The screen goes right off.
-Camera center button is different, shows + and - to zoom.

Issues with Upgrade-
- Font size was 1 size bigger then before rogers update.
=I was able to get the size back, by select many different fonts with the size of 7... Then i went back to my favorite BBClarity 7 and the size was smaller again. I can verify that the size of the fonts stay small after a reboot or a pull of the battery.

Issues Experienced By Other BBForums Users-
-nickbee---->Green satus light staying on after a call (or blue light if using BlueTooth)

-getthething---->Now on certain people when they call me it shows the correct picture for the caller id but on the in call screen it shows someone elses picture

Am i leaving anything out?

That is probably a huge issue, but service status light bothers the hell out of me.

I had my pearl 8100 paired to my motorola hf820 speakerphone, made a phone call on it in the car, hung up with the moto button and my blue light did not stay on. It just flashes that it is paired with the speakerphone.

What i am really excitied to try is to go home and try to use the pearl as a bluetooth modem for tmobile broadband. I am wondering if Rogers/Rim fixed the issue with the widcomm drivers... I will post later tonight to let everyone know. I doubt that is fixed.. but you never know.

not to burst any bubbles, but my TMO version voice activation worked with names, very specific enunciation, but it worked. I remember an RSS Feed option in the browser and would have sworn the +- was there in the camera too. I didn't get the myfavs folder in the upgrade, but don't have or want the service anyway.

that said, I'm happy with the upgrade. worst bug for me is the auto-dim not being very responsive.

haven't done the upgrade, but I will confirm that voice dialing works with names very well on the T-Mobile OS.

I tried for 2 hours to get it to recoginze names and it never once got a name.. it just repeated once to "repeat the name" and then shutoff. My wife was ready to take the phone and throw it against the wall.

- There also was no "web feed" feature in my browser before the upgrade. I checked because people had suggested that it was there. IT WAS NOT.

My voice command actually works now after the upgrade... and yes i played with every setting in voice command to get it to work.

I haven't upgraded to the Rogers OS yet and I can say that on my TMO OS, voice activation works fine with names, the +/- is in the camera, but I don't see the RSS feed option.

I must be remembering wrong about the RSS feature. I would have sworn...
sorry for the mis-info.

After the upgarde I didn't get a "Myfavs" folder. Everyone seems to be getting different issues with the new Rogers upgrade.

Do you think the service light staying on is an issue only because one is trying to put a Rogers OS on to a T-Mo phone? Don't think so since it is RIM issuing the OS for an 8100. An 8100 is an 8100 regardless of which carrier is selling it. Right?

So if this is RIM's mistale, how could they program this OS and not see that the service light stays on. Talk about a big bright BUG sitting right on top of the phone, easy to see I would think.

I heard elsewhere about the issue and the temp fix is to simply turn off the connection status/message notifier light.

That's no fix for me since I rely on that light when the phone is sitting on the desk and I have headphones on, either listening to music or playing a game.

Based on that and other problems, think I'll pass on installing the Roger's OS. I especially don't like that auto-dim stays on and there is no way to disable that feature. I hate auto-dim.

Maybe the RIM programmers, to fix the trackball/ringer issue, had to take away the ability to shut off auto dim?

If when fixing the trackball/ringer issue the programmers did not notice that the auto-dim feature was stuck in the "on" position, well..... that would be unforgivable. I mean, they are specialists, aren't they?

Prior to upgrade, I was had bookmarked 2 rss feeds, so it worked here. With regards to your voice recognition problem, did you try switching the language to English (UK) saving and then switching back in the "Language" setting panel? This forces the voice dial app to to rescan the names and rebuild some sort of recognition table?

We are ofcourse referring to the Rogers upgrade as v.51 and not v.61 correct?

There is a "add web feed" option in the TMO OS browser. I'm looking at it right now. Of course its not available if there's no feed available on the page that your currently viewing, but if available, the options there. Trust me, its there.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are two different versions of the tmobile os loaded on the pearls...

I know for a fact that i looked for the rss add web feed for the website "bink.nu" and there was no option for it. After the upgrade it was there...... that site has every type of rss feed known to man....

Others before in the thread say they too didn't have this option... even though you did.

I didn't notice this before the upgrade but it may have been there. Now on certain people when they call me it shows the correct picture for the caller id but on the in call screen it shows someone elses picture. Has anyone else noticed this?
