Wink BEWARE T-Mo 8100 Carry Case

Please Login to Remove!

So I picked up the blackberry 8100 pearl case from T-mobile today. The one designed for the 8100. The sleeper function does not work unless the phone is put in upside down with the keypad facing rear. Has anyone had this problem yet? Is there a fix?

When I purchased my Pearl, there wasn't a case available. I got the one that is used for the SDA that T-Mo offers. I can put the Pearl in any kind of way, it will go to sleep - so you may wanna take that one back. Unless you like putting the Pearl in there upside down. (side note...I took a look at that case, and I didn't really care for it much because of the way I have to place my Pearl in there....sux)

Yes. Put it in upside down.

Actually, mine works w/ keyboard in front (still upside down, though). Doesn't bother me too much. I can patiently wait, so long as I have some kind of sleeper case in the interim.

I cut the top strap off and took out the magnets. Then I used electric tape to put the magnets on the bottom so it would work like its ment to. Just a quick fix for now till they have something perfect

I'd rather put it in upside-down than go through all that ish.

Is this the slip-in sleeve case? (i.e. no flap)

Is it just me or was this whole 8100 launch FUBARed? I mean...from the issues with the sensitivity of the trackball turning off the ringer to the lack of a case at launch...now we apparently have a case that was not designed right and you have to put the phone in upside down???

i agree rim should of waited to release the 8100. i mean who makes a case for a blackberry and dont include the magnet. the magnet that puts the bb to sleep is the one for the flap that goes over the case. so i mean we need a better case design

Tmo 8100 case was too thick for my taste.

The case made the 8100 feel as thick as my previous 7100. Why would Tmobile make the case sooo thick and put the magnet in the wrong place for sleep/in-case ringtones?

Everty time a new BB is released the same comments are made:

- RIM should have waited.
- I don't like the xxxxx feature
- There are no cases/holsters/skins
- There are too many bugs

Look - if you buy a new device the week it comes out, EXPECT BUGS.

Yes, T-Mobile is absolutely wrong for selling a case without a sleeper magnet. 100% wrong. Fortunately the SDA case works beautifully for the 8100. There are lots of threads already on this.

Thanks for the heads up! Just got the case, never noticed it. Guess for now I can make sure its in upside down. Mine fits in a bit tight and I was always squeezing on the volume buttons when pulling it out anyway. I noticed a small hole in the bottom corner of this blackberry, looks to be for a pull or something to go through?

NJB is right. There's always gonna be bugs. That's the nature of the beast. It was the same with the PSP, the XBOX 360, and now...the Pearl. But if you get the insurance on it, that doesn't matter. If it breaks, they will take care of it.

I'm lovin the Pearl...and it will get better once they drop another software update!

I am currently using my old 7100t case. I put a small piece of foam in the bottom to align the 8100 heightwise with the magnet, and slipped a handful of my business cards in the front (shorter) side of the case behind the handset to snug it up . Works like a champ, and I now always have a business card ready to hand out if needed.
