Default Any cheaper unlocking options?

Adam at gsmphonesource will do it for $99, but for those of us without Tmo that makes it a $450 phone. Any cheaper way?

Ask T Mobile for the unlock code... other then that you gotta pay for it. I don't know of any other cheaper places. Adam does a great job from what I have heard.

What I have heard, you have to be a long time consumer of theirs and always pay your bills.

If you meet those, you can give them a call.

What I did was find a friend who had TMO and asked if I can unlock the 8100 under his account. I think he can do it once a year or every 90 days.

But still waiting for the unlock code. (48 hours now) :(

I used gsmphonesource and their $99 service. I had the code within 5 hours.

Their service is second to none!

Cheapest way would be via T Mobile if they provide the unlock code to you for no charge. The only other places I know of right now for unlocking the BlackBerry is Adam from GSM Phone Source which is $75 USD for T Mobile's 8100 (I guess he dropped the price since that's the price I saw on his site today) or you can have it remote unlocked from Bongo Wireless who are charging $99 CDN.

Still too high for just unlocking a phone. I used to unlock phones all the time, just not BB's. Let's see if TMO comes back with something, if not I'll consider my options.

TMO will unlock the phone provided it's been on their network for 90 days or more, and the account is in good standing.

BTW - it should be mentioned that you CAN be a pre-paid customer and get the unlock codes - but not get the phone at the contract price. That being said, you can ask the store for a discount... I got mine for $299 without a contract and T-Mo is sending me the unlock code (which I requested because gsmphonesource.com seems unable to get me my unlock code)...

Moral of the story - ask for discounts...

My friend at t-mobile told me that tmo will unlock your phone 1 time a year for free not sure it its true but you could give it a try
