BES 4.1 - IT Policy (Spreadsheet) - UPDATED for 4.1.5
Please Login to Remove!
This is from the Exchange version of BES 4.1, but I'm pretty sure that its fairly applicable to all versions. Hope this might help out some people - I know some were asking for a dump of all the options in the past.
This should also, for the most part, be applicable to BES 4.0, as well. With some exceptions, such as the Phone Logs/SMS/PIN synchronization/auditing, it will be the same from version to version.
This includes the IT policy (in the order they are listed in BES with colored section separators), the coinciding description of the policy, the minimum and maximum values for the policy, the default value (if the policy is not set), and the values that are applicable for that particular policy.
In my opinion, this should be used to help BES admins out when determining IT policy implementation (not to mention that its updated with ALL of the newer policies implemented). RIM used to offer this documentation in the Administration Guide as an appendix, but they removed it in later versions of BES 4.0 (for whatever reason). It can still be obtained, with a little work, from downloading a service pack for any version and looking at the DB installation scripts (hence it being public information, albeit taking a few jumps through hoops).
Color Code:
Blue: Category Header
Yellow: Added in BES 4.1.2
Green: Added in BES 4.1.3
Maroon: Deprecated in BES 4.1.2
Orange: Deprecated in BES 4.1.3
Light Blue: Added in BES 4.1.4
Dark Blue: Deprecated in BES 4.1.5
Light Pink: Added in BES 4.1.5

Jibi,
Thanks man - this is awesome. Finally someone has broken this down into a format that is easy to understand.
What is also great about this document is that you offer the DEFAULT settings so if you make a ton of changes and screw something up - you can reset the settings back to normal.
Really well done and much appreciated.
Thanks,

Very nice having all this in one spreadsheet -- did you pull the info from scripts or the database? I've been manually updating my own sheet with each new service pack that comes out.
Also see the "Policy Reference Guide" at http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgec...jAction=browse. Last modified date of 23 March 2006, it includes all the 4.1 options and also cross-references the version of BB device software needed for each item.

ahh, good. that was the one they had in the past in their Administrative Guide, and what i was looking for when i decided to make this one.
as for the way to obtain the information, i viewed the table in the database (ITPolicy2 i believe) and then exported that to a CSV from which i then parsed it for the line break characters to actual line breaks, etc. quite a bit of manual work was involved, as i honestly don't know how to script in any language ...hehe.

That's great help Jibi, many thanks, just waiting for 4.1 to be released in the UK and this has helped me with some of the questions I had about 4.1.
Just one small question though, I did not see it mention in your spreadsheet and thought you may know as you are running it, I am really looking for a way to block certain device models from connecting to our BES and was hopeing it would be a new policy but doesn't look it, do you know if it possible?
Also have they allowed the handheld configuration tool to say and register any NON RIM devices instead of showing blank?
Many thanks

Jibi - thanks for saving my butt!!! Just trying to prepare for a meeting on BB security, and I was breaking my head over how to get this info into a useable format.
You are clearly the shiznit!

I can't access this as I don't have an account. Tried to sign up but I live in Australia and they only offer US/Canada.
Found it in the public area here:

Thanks for the other advice in this thread.
Cheers,

Attached is an old spreadsheet I had made with 4.0 policies in it. Also attached is a Notes database I made from jibi's 4.1 policies spreadsheet. Gotta rename it from .doc to .zip to be able to get at it. I guess the forum will allow you to upload ~500 kB of .doc, but only ~100kB of .zip.
7/21/06- updated DB with minor fixes.

BOHIC, nice work on the database! The revision documentation is a great addition.
Now all we need is a way to import our initial policy settings straight from the BES, and we'd be rocking. I have the basics in a spreadsheet at this point.

I can get you from a spreadsheet to a Notes database, but I haven't done any work talking right to SQL.

I am going to update this sometime tomorrow for 4.1 SP2. There were 57 additional policy options added and one deprecated policy option.
