Default Can BIS Sync with Outlook?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm sure this question has been answered but I couldn't find the answer through a search.

Can BIS sync with Outlook in a non-Exchange environment? What items will it sync? Will it sync emails, tasks, calendar items and contacts?

How does it work? Does it use a desktop allplication like Desktop Manager to send information from Outlook on your desktop comptur to a RIM server so it can be dispatched to your BB?

BTW, I'm thinking of the version of BIS that TMO offers on the 8700G...I think this is BIS 2.0.

BIS forwards your e-mail. That's it. It has nothing to do with Calendar, Notes, Tasks or Contacts. It forwards e-mail.

To sync up PIM information, you will need oto use Desktop Manager and the Intellisync function (normally via the supplied USB cable, but sometimes via Bluetooth).

Does that help?

You need to use a BES for full email, PIM sync capabilities. There's many providers advertised on this site.

Perfect. My brother is thinking of getting a BB we probably aren't going to be able host Exchange for him on our office server so he's going to have to go the BIS route.

So we will be able to forward his email wirelessly to his BB and sync all other items (Calendar, Notes, Tasks or Contacts) via a USB cable? I think that will work for us.

How does the BIS mail forwarding work? Does it have some kind of web based application that checks POP3 accounts and sends the mail to the BB?

Thank you for your help!

Here's a very good Sticky Thread FAQ on how BIS works (actually, all the different methods for getting e-mail to your BB).

Thank you. I think that answers the POP3 question.

Another question....if we have the BB setup to sync via bluetooth, can we set it up to sync automatically when it's near the computer or will we need to click on some "sync" icon within Intellisync everytime we want it to sync?

You still need to click on sync - it will not automatically sync when the BT gets in range.

This came up in another thread and it seems that the latest Desktop manager software requires you to click a prompt but the older versions didn't. I believe the thread is in the Bluetooth forum.
