Default Anyway to Enable Calling Features While the Handheld is Locked?

Please Login to Remove!

We have a very strict IT policy at my company, no browser no instant messaging, and it even locks after itself I think after 20 mins of inactivity and then requires a password after that.

Shoot, if you enter the pasword wrong 5 times it will erase itself and just become a paper weight.

But I was wondering, I'm not really all that informed on the IT policy side and I need to know if there is a way to make calls on the handheld besides 911 if its locked...

Default Depends

You can set policy to allow outgoing call while the device is locked under Options-Security. If you can't change the option then most likely your corp IT policy restricted the setting. I believe it only applies to newer 4.0 devices.

And the BES has to be at 4.x as well. The user can make calls while locked, but cannot access any applications (including the address book). So they either have to know what number they are calling or call one of the numbers in the call history that appears in the phone app. Knowing this, perhaps your BES Admin would be wiling to update the policy to allow phone calls.

I allowed it on our IT policy and it made the users swallow the forced password a little better.

How about this. When my phone locks while on a long call, I can't access my calendar or other apps. Anyway on BES to allow for that under the security policy?

Your phone locks while ON a call - wow, that sucks. What version BES are you using?

Edit: It looks like there is an option in the IT Policy (v4.0) for "Enable Long-Term Timeout", that is probably set to False on your policy (forces it to lock after 60 minutes, regardless of user activity). To go along with that, there is the "Perdiodic Challenge Time" that can be set to an interval of 1-60 minutes that will force a user to re-enter thier password regardless of user activity.

My users would hunt me down and kill me if I set either of those.....

Wirelessly posted (8700c: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Mine locks at 20 min. Without changing that-they won't is there any way to access the other apps if it locks. Can't even get into the password screen.

i changed the IT policy under sercurity policy group and changed allow outgoing call when locked to true and pushed it out to my handheld and it still only allowes for me to unlock, emergency call or cancel. I cannot make any calls when the phon is locked is there something else i need to change.

That only opens up the option on the handheld. You still have to turn it on on each handheld under security.
