I created my first theme a few days ago, but I keep getting a Java Null error after a while. I have narrowed it down to the idle screen image.

The theme builder manual states that the image will be resized to fit the idle dimension if needed. This does not seem to be working. It appears the image is just not included with the theme.

I know the normal size for the 72XX series is 240X160, but what is the size for the idle screen image? I would resize the image myself if I knew the correct size.

This will read odd but give it a try first b4 giving in?
Make a new theme for you phone but use everything default. Change maybe a color or two but no images. Install that new theme and see if you get any errors. If you don't then i would assume your images being used for the theme are the cause and you should examine those closer.

It's trial and error and you must start with a clean work space first.

I made a basic theme that only had the color for the date and time changed.

It worked fine. No errors.

I can test for the error qquickly by going to the Screen/Keyboard menu of options and choosing preview of the standby screen

the exact error message is:

Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerExcention


by clicking OK I can go back to normal operation. The only work arounds I have is to either not change the idle screen or to disable the standby screen

any other ideas?

I believe there is a problem with idle screens on some of the loads of software on 7290s. What version of handheld software are you running?

Looks like a problem for people with handheld loads 4.1.0.233 through to 4.1.0.294 inclusive. You, unfortunately, fall into that category. It exists in a few other releases as well.

Unfortunately, the only work around is to not include an idle screen.

I believe we are putting together a knowledge base article on this.

Ooops. Mistyped. It is quite possible we'll put together a knowledge base article. However, we will definitely include it in the known issues list in the Release Notes.
