Question Tour 9630 DTAC/AIS Thailand Help!

Please Login to Remove!

I followed this post and it is similar to my questions / problem I think..

"Tour 9630 struggles for internet to work" (could not post link?)

And it is Closed. So..

I understand , thanks to the above posts, that the TOUR is Primarily a CDMA Phone. I believe I read it operates GSM on 900 / 1800
and CDMA on 850 / 1900/2100

Thailand is Dismantling its CDMA service.
The Service providers here have basically
AIS = 1800 2G GSM
AIS = 900 3G GSM

DTAC = 2G 1800
= 3G 850

I am still trying to get that confirmed but if correct, should this Tour 9630 operate on AIS 900 GSM 3G or DTAC 850 3G (Even if not CDMA)
My problems are similar to the above referenced post OP yaseisle.

Thanks for your help
Garvin

All Blackberry phones require a specific Blackberry data plan from the carrier to function on the internet. Without it the most you can get would be calls and texting.

What do I need a Data Plan for? - BlackBerryFAQ

you did not indicate if you do have a plan or have ever been able to view a web page so my best guess is you do not have a plan.

Thanks tsac.
I do have a Blackberry Data Plan thru DTAC Thailand. {Total Access} . The unit worked perfectly for the first 3 - 4 days and then only voice / SMS services worked.

What I was asking is , which of these carriers have the most compatible system:

AIS = 1800 2G GSM
AIS = 900 3G GSM
OR
DTAC = 2G 1800
= 3G 850

Or should Either work.

Again, this taking into account what was said in the thread :

xxxx.blackberryforums.com/blackberry-help/256345-tour-9630-struggles-internet-workxxxx

and the posts by "penguin3107"

Thanks

The 9630 will not operate on either of those 3G networks. It only operates on 2100 for UMTS networks. For Thailand, it will operate only on EDGE/GPRS.

Many thanks for that. A CLear answer!

The Tech support here in Thailand is 'complicated' .. There are good techs out there, but you may have to go thru 8 or 10 before you get to talk to one.. that speaks English...

EDGE would be fast enough for me.. for now.. I can 'limp along' until the BB 10 comes out.. with keypad..
So either provider will suit me. Thanks
