Our organisation is doing a migration of Exchange 2010 to a different Exchange infrastructure, and all the mailboxes will be migrated across. Our users will stay on the same AD domain, but the new Exchange is in a separate, trusted resource forest.

Currently we have two BB servers: a BES 4.1.6 server (which has given me funny DB errors when trying to upgrade it, which is why it's still on 4.1.6), with around 80 users, and a BESX 5.0.3 server with around 250 users. They are in different BlackBerry domains.

What approach can I take to minimise the impact to our users as we migrate? I really don't want to have to factory reset each device manually to move over (as we have to do moving from the BES server to the BESX server). I can easily set up another BESX server, if needed.

Suggestions?

are the exchange servers old and new in the same exchange org?

if yes then just move users to new BES with transporter and then move the mailboxes over to the new server

Currently, both our servers are in the same Exchange org. I could set up a new server pointing to the new org though - would that do it? What about the databases? Currently the databases are all server local.

BES 5.0 supports an Exchange Resource Forest configuration.

Multiple AD forests should be ok as long as

1) There is a two way trust between them
2) They are all within the same Exchange organization


A new exchange org means wipe the device prior to activate on new server unless you use a service like B nator

All sorted and migrated successfully with the Transporter. We set up a new server with a service account with the appropriate permissions in the resource forest, and Transported users to that one when the mailboxes moved. All very hassle-free.
