Please Login to Remove!
Has anyone ever seen this?
Start the 5.0.3 MR3 setup, and it asks for langunage (to show the eula), then shows the splash screen and bombs out with an error
installer log shows this

restarted the BES, same error
tried reinstalling the previous MR (MR1) , identical error.
Something is wrong, in AD/DNS but i just cannot put my finger to it.
Has anybody seen this before?

Re: MR 3 fails to install
The errors look a litte different from what is written in the knowledge base article.
is: 193.58.110.44 a domaincontroller which hosts an AD integrated zone ?
if you open a command window and type:
nslookup (hit enter)
server 193.58.110.44 (hit enter)
set querytype=ANY (hit enter)
gc._tcp.Hoofdgebouw._sites.ad.domain.be (hit enter)
do you get an answer or an error message ?

Re: MR 3 fails to install
Hi guys, sorry for the delay,
no the KB doesn't seem to fit
My log doesn't show a fail in that section
[30000] (08/17 14:03:09.842):{0x2264} GetDCInfoEx successfully determined values [Name[doco10.ad.domain.be] Addr[193.58.110.40] Domain[ad.domain.be] Forest[ad.domain.be] Site[Hoofdgebouw] SB[DC=ad,DC=domain,DC=be] PDC=0 GC=1 IsValid=1 NatRetCode=0 LDAPRetCode=0 ET=0 ] for server/domain [/]
Nobody , this is the output
_gc._tcp.Hoofdgebouw._sites.ad.domain.be SRV service location:
priority = 0
weight = 100
port = 3268
svr hostname = doco11.ad.domain.be
_gc._tcp.Hoofdgebouw._sites.ad.domain.be SRV service location:

It looks to me that the installer is tentatively trying the DB connection prior to patching.
I tries the DB connection parameters from BES, in this case trusted windows
And as such it fails on the trusted authentication lookup
I'm thinking about setting up an SQL login for BES, and retrying the patch that way, as a workaround.. But it's still odd why it does that.

Re: MR 3 fails to install
but here:
[10000] (08/10 13:06:21.684):{0x24C4} PerformDNSQuery failed for query [_gc._tcp.Hoofdgebouw._sites.ad.domain.be/SRV], code [2726]
[30000] (08/10 13:06:21.684):{0x24C4} [SystemData]: Could not locate a user GC by forest/domain/site, trying forest/domain only.
was a problem, no global catalog server found (?)
but that might have been a temporary failure.
You have 2 Domain controllers. Are both ok ?
on the DC do dcdiag in a command window and check for possible errors.
under active directory sites, are both domain controller listed or do you have more then those 2 ?
Are you running the installer as the same user which originally installed the BES ?
read here:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-...m-catch22.html
and check the registry entries in the HKCU subtree if the database server is present.

Re: MR 3 fails to install
yep, both DC's are ok , not sure if there are more, it's not my network, it's a customer.
Same user is used
reg keys are present.
i'll ask my customer to send me dcdiag output

Re: MR 3 fails to install
"10000] (08/10 13:07:10.905):{0x24C4} [CDBComp::ConnectToHost]: Cannot connect to DB with error: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]Specified SQL server not found.0x80004005 NativeError=6"
you could try:
login as the "besadmin" user (the user which the blackberry servers run under, you can find that in the services console).
with regedit, go into the HKCU tree,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server
copy the String which is in the Database key
go into start, controlpanel, computer management, ODBC administration.
create a new Database connection here for test purposes, with the string from the registry, and check, if the Besmgmt datbase is accessible.

Re: MR 3 fails to install
pretty sure it's available, BES is running on it on this very machine.
503MR2 version is running, there's nothing wrong with the BES, it's just that i can't patch it.

same difference, as with MR1 , MR 2 , MR 3
It's not the installer, it's not the patch.
There is something on that server/ AD that causes this
I presume it's the sql windows trustd authentication, but why it does this i don't know.
think i'll just add SQL login , set BES up for that, and run the MR that way.

Re: MR 3 fails to install
Might be worth a try,
Still I recommend to check the registry entry for the database.
Believing somthing is nice, but that does not mean you know something.

Re: MR 3 fails to install
Switched BES over to SQL login with SA, BES started up nice on those parameters and is running like a champ
Now MR4 , same error as before, same AD resolution messages and SQL 0x80004005 Native error= 6
I can however connect with SQL mgmt studio express, with either trusted login or with SA login, it does what i want.

Microsoft SQL Native Client Version 09.00.5000
Running connectivity tests...
Attempting connection
Connection established
Verifying option settings
Disconnecting from server
TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY!''
SQL is running locally, static port, Named pipes enabled.
This is turning out to be a really annoying problem.. Everything works for the BB's so it's not critical, it's just annoying.

Re: MR 3 fails to install
check your SQL logs for login errors?
still might be a permission issue with the database

Re: MR 3 fails to install
problem found, nothing to do with AD, nothing to do with SQL
Customer had his patches on a storage mapping , not local
That caused the issue.
We noticed it when we tried to re-run sp3 , and that yielded some different errors then the MR, they pointed towards a file acces problem. and the rest is history.
