Trackpad undesirable multiple clicks
Please Login to Remove!
Hi all,
Been experiencing a very annoying problem with my Bold 9700 (OS6) trackpad for the past week:
When you click on something it tends to deliver multiple clicks in a row. This is very annoying because the trackpad doubles up as a menu item, as well as a confirmation button. For example, normally when I would want to open and read an e-mail I simply click on it once. Now when I click on it, it will open, bring up the menu where Reply is clicked on and then sent, all in one quick succession!!! - very malicious.
Has anyone come across this before and if so, how do you fix it? Hope I don't have to resort to replacing the trackpad.

Wow - 244 views and not a single response. Is this problem really that rare?

Re: Trackpad undesirable multiple clicks
Were you having this problem before upgrading to OS6? Hard to understand how an OS upgrade would cause what you're describing, but it's a good place to start.

There was no need to take a parting shot. My fiancee has an iphone4. Every time I have to work with it to do something for her I feel so grateful for my Blackberry. I can actually get some real work done and very quickly on the BB. The iPhone technology is cool, but nothing that I would want to run my business with.
Oh and BTW, you hijacked this thread which is not cool. But now you can do that on the iPhone forum. They'll appreciate it too.....

What exactly is new technology on iPhone? New design, maybe, but not much new on technology side.

Yes I thought about that. But I did an upgrade (from OS6.x to OS6.x+1), but the problem started only a week after that. Besides, the problem has got worse since it first manifested itself. For these reasons I feel it's a hardware problem, rather than software. Anyway, I realised how cheap the trackpads are on eBay (£2.5) so have now ordered a replacement trackpad!
Will post the results once replaced...

Re: Trackpad undesirable multiple clicks
Bump for an answer. I just noticed i have the same problem starting today. Didn't install any new apps and i did several battery pulls where i waited a few minutes in between the pulls. I'm running OS v 5.0.0.405. Seems like my trackpad is oversensative when i rub my thumb against it and it instantly starts clicking on stuff. Is there any way to make the trackpad less sensative to clicks or turn it off completely?

Re: Trackpad undesirable multiple clicks
Oh wait, i think i just corrected the problem. Go to:
SETTINGS
SCREEN/KEYBOARD
Scroll down to Trackpad Horizontal Sensitivity and Vertical Sensitivity. It was previously set at 70. I set it to 50. Now i don't get the annoying double clicks when my thumb "lightly" brushes across the trackpad.

Re: Trackpad undesirable multiple clicks
Hmm... I am surprised you managed to solve your issue. You can only set the scrolling speed of the trackpad, you can't change the click sensitivity.
Anyway, I had tried what you did also, but it didn't help me. So in the end I just ordered a replacement trackpad (only cost me £2.5) and it did the job!
You can find them here, but I found eBay much cheaper:
oem original Blackberry Trackpad Top Store for Original BlackBerry Accessories and Parts - Blackberry Accessories

Re: Trackpad undesirable multiple clicks
I actually i noticed i had the sticky trackpad issue after i cleaned the unit with Windex. I wonder if liquid got underneath of it and it dried up a few hours later? Then, my problem fixed itself after it dried. Possible, but not sure.

Re: Trackpad undesirable multiple clicks
I have a 9700 with T-Mobile. When I upgraded to OS6 I noticed the track pad would go into unwanted applications b/c of multiple clicking with just a swipe of my finger. I then had issues with the phone freezing on certain screens. So I wiped all the applications and reinstalled only the needed ones. The trackpad kept on but the phone seemed better. Then I started getting the wonderful wheel when trying to do anything even just sitting on the desk. So a downgrade to OS5 and its bb business as usual..don't know what was going on but it wasnt worth the trouble. haha anyone having multiple issues like this?

Re: Trackpad undesirable multiple clicks
How old are the phones that are having this problem? I've not seen the problem with 9700's, but I've seen it with 9000s and 8800s, and probably 7250s with their wheel too. Generally for us it happens when the phone is old and worn out, or has some water damage.
I've never found a cure other than replacing the phone, so it's good to hear it can be fixed on this model by replacing the track pad. With the track balls, the button was actually underneath, and replacing the bas assembly didn't help.

Incidentally, most places where a trackpad click is required, you can press Enter instead.
