I have a few questions about the Blackberry 7520. I called literally 10
different Nextel locations in the DFW area and got several different
answers. How can a company have a sales force that knows virtually
nothing about the product they are selling?

ANYWAY… Is it possible to go to regular websites on the 7520, or is it
just text only? I am a construction contractor and I need the capability
of seeing live weather radar so I can tell when rain is coming through,
a page like Intellicast.com for example. Will the WebViewer program
enable me to do this? Or do I need to just get a wireless laptop
connection and forget about a Blackberry? The email would be really
handy though, would I be able to open up and edit and send Excel
spreadsheets on it?

I have been told by Nextel sales people yes definitely, maybe, no, I
don’t know, I will call you back, that’s a good question, and a few
others. Of the two that said they would call me back I never heard from
them again.

It’s too bad everyone in my industry uses Nextel direct connect.
Otherwise I would have changed a long time ago.

I use WebViewer from Reqwireless.

It works well and allows you to get to most any website there is. You can download a trial version and try it. The only thing that the trial version will do is to put the word "Trial" across the graphics and it will expire.

In my view it was well worth the money. I look at the weather websites for the exact same reason. Also came in handy during hurricane season when we lost power.

I do it but we have 6 or 7 blackberry servers.

I think if you want the real scoop on blackberries, just call Nextel's 1-800 number and ask for sales.

I did call the Nextel 800# and was told that the 7520 was text only on the web and she was positive about it.

So I guess you are saying she is wrong. What capablities does the servers you are talking about give you?

I have the 7520 with the Reqwireless web viewer and it is awesome. I did also see weather software on Handangos website also. I dont know if its just a coincidence but my reception is so much better since I got the 7520, Nextels service has always been up hit or miss but since I have had it since December I have had no problems.

TCC sounds new at this so lets break it down....

The Nextel units 6510/7510/7520 out of the box without BlackBerry Enterprise server connectivity do not have html (regular web) browsers. They have WAP browsers which are limited to text.

Your choices to get html web browsing are:

-Connect to your corporate BES
-Subscribe to a hosted BES (mailstreet, blueberry etc...)
-Buy ReqWireless WebViewer program and install.

You can install most applications OTA but your BlackBerry should come with a USB cable to install the ones that do not.

most applications will not encompass those over the restricted OTA size limit. I would just plan on loading them via cod/alx (if available; Desktop Manager) or plain cod (javaloader) if the jad/jar is over the 200K or so size limit.

OK I got the BB and have the email working fine, I bought Webviewer and installed it. I click on the Webviewer icon and try to register and cant even register or go to any web pages. I keep getting a message, "ERROR could not open tunnel - max timeout". Is there a setting on the BB 7520 I should change to allow this program to start working? The install of the software seemed to go smoothly...
