Research In Motion, makers of Blackberry, will release its Blackberry Storm that will run on the LTE network from Verizon Wireless, according to Salomondrin.

Blackberry Storm To Be LTE-Enabled for Verizonxxx8217;s Network | GoingLTE.com

It will either be the first or second LTE handset. It will be a top of the line device with a lot of add ons, including a 1 GHz processor, 8GB of internal memory and 1 GB of Flash memory. Verizon is the only carrier that offers the Blackberry Storm touchscreen smartphone.

Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam the carrier would launch up to five LTE handsets by May 2011. He listed a few phone makers that were developing LTE handsets. Verizon will showcase its LTE network and devices at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in January 2011.

Verizon Wireless has entered user-friendly trials in five markets. It’s tested the technology in Boston and Seattle since 2009 with plans on covering 100 million people by the end of 2010. This would provide a great boost to adopting LTE. RIM has the largest portion of the smart phone market right now. They’ll need to keep up the 4G iPhone and the HTC EVO 4G device released for Sprint’s WiMAX network. Verizon needs handsets as soon as possible. To start, they’ll offer USB dongles for laptops. Handsets will help adoption grow faster.

The HTC EVO 4G isn’t exactly flying off the shelves, but it’s Sprint’s most successful phone launch in years. Blackberry and Verizon have a long history of producing great products and the Storm LTE version should help sign users up for the 4G technology.

Sprint has had the deal with HTC's inability to fulfill inventory requests. The phone's "flew off the shelf" and the shelves were never restocked. That would not have been the case if Sprint would have gone to say Apple or Samsung for high volume requests.

But while we're on the topic of LTE... Sprint & Clearwire (creater of WiMAX) is a composed of partners including Sprint, Time Warner, Google and other companies has announced LTE 4G trials.

"Clearwire if proceeding with plans to conduct 4G LTE technology trials, these are expected to yield unmatched wireless speeds in the U.S. and to test multiple coexistence scenarios between LTE and WiMAX radio technologies. The new tests are designed to show the unique capability of Clearwire's spectrum holdings and to examine a variety of potential future technology combinations."

"Congratulations! 4G will launch in your area by the end of 2010."

Part of HTC's problem was their reliance on other manufacturers for parts.

I'll be there in a few weeks. Last year at CES, the Blackberry booth didn't showcase anything new. Only what was currently on the market. They had no information about new products and were quite rigid regarding anything new. Why have a booth?

Anyway, I guess I'll get more info from the Verizon booth. We'll see.

Thanks.
