Default Continuous Restart Issue - International Travel

Please Login to Remove!

I have 4 users over in Turkey this week, all on Blackberry Tours from VZW. Three of the four are reporting that their devices are constantly rebooting. They've reported that it starts up, works for a few minutes, then instantly reboots.

We've done no software changes, other than activating the international roaming on the device with VZW.

The three that keep restarting have the following OS on them:

4.7.1.61 (2 of them)
5.0.0.320

The one that works has OS 5.0.0.591. Upgrading OS at this point is not an option.

Any suggestions?

Try pulling the media cards on all 3 and see what happens. Of course, I think we all agree an updated OS may solve but I see you stated that's not an option.

Yeah, trying to get the users, while traveling, to do a software upgrade just isn't going to happen.

I did find the solution, but no thanks to either RIM or VZW support. It is a problem with the phone selecting the correct service. If one goes to Options -> Mobile Network, the Network Technology needs to be changed from Global to GSM/UMTS, and then Mode needs to be changed to 2G. Seems it's not a problem with a newer OS.

Hmm. It may be more linked with the phone. My 9650 as a newer model, world phone allows for seamless changes. I switched to Global and no issues. I am not sure how the geography impacts it.

For what it is worth I had to manually switch from Global to GSM/UMTS on a recent trip abroad. Of course, that could have been due to my complete lack of patience when I hadn't received 9 hours worth of emails within 20 seconds of touching down in Amsterdam!

shmeek, i am replying to this advice: "I did find the solution, but no thanks to either RIM or VZW support. It is a problem with the phone selecting the correct service. I just landed in turkey, and in the first 3 hours here, my phone (blackberry tour)(verizon) has been resetting itself almost every three - four minutes.

thanks to your post which I found using a google search, I changed my network to the GSM/UMTS and then to 2G, and so far 5 minutes have gone by and it has not yet reset. If this doesn't work, I don't have a plan B, but would like to know what else I can do? My email is [email address] if you have any advice.
THANKS for posting the advice you did already!
