You can't save them to your Media Card.
Are you currently saving them to your SIM card?

heh, I don't think this is damn BlackBerry and memory issues. It sounds more like your SIM card issue. I think.
Look at your device to Options > Status > press the Menu key > Database Sizes.
Scroll down to SMS Messages. What is the number to the right, looks like 973/495.9k

Woops, that is a lot. They are saving to the device memory.
You need to back up your BlackBerry (hopefully you already are) and free up some memory.

Your SMS and applications are stored in the Application memory.
Application memory is not Device memory is not the Media card. You can't store the SMS elsewhere on it.
Do this, search for the app called DexRex, which will allow your SMS messages to be stored to your PC as a safety measure.
Have you EVER done a backup of your BB using Desktop Manager? I asked above.

why is application memory so little? And why am i not allowed to use any of the device memory or the media card memory? That is dumb as hell...
Damn blackberry and its memory issues
And I cant use desktop manager as i have a mac, so no i have never backed up anything
What do you think would be the best thing to do? Do that DexRex crap and delete all my text messages?

Doesnt make any sense having two separate memories
And even if they did, why so little? 21 MB of space available? Are you kidding me? Lol i have never heard of a device these days being released with such little memory

Dan, come on man. Why all the "why" questions. The why doesn't really matter right now unless that is more important than getting your SMS database cleared up enough to work, is it? Try DexRex crap. Use Desktop Manager for Mac.
Do you know how to be gracious or say thanks?
Or we can discuss the "why" questions if that is more important to you.

It has 128MB of application memory, which is used first by the OS, then by applications, then by data, such as email, sms, contacts storage.
If they are saving to your SIM, its hardly surprising its out of memory. Options - SMS, I believe the option to turn off saving from SIM is in there.

Dan, you knew this (128mb app memory) when you bought the device, right? ok, that's settled, thanks.
Oh, and the 9000 is now, what, over two years old? Lots has changed since it was introduced.

For Mac users, use Missing Sync, it copies all SMS text messages to your computer. Then you can delete them from the phone.
