Default Blackberry 9630 Tethering issues

Please Login to Remove!

Not sure if this is the right place for this question or not but this is my dilemma in hopes that someone out there might know what to do! UGH!

I use my Toshiba laptop and tether my BB 9630 to use the internet. The OS is Vista (I know I know . . bad VISTA), but all of a sudden my laptop is not recognizing my BB and I cannot get on the internet through my laptop. I have a Toshiba netbook where the OS is Windows XP and it tethers fine. The funnier thing is that when I use the Toshiba with the Vista OS I can get Wi-Fi with no problems. I've tried talking to VZ tech support several times and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When they do get it going, it only works temporarily and then I go back to having issues. I have also already tried updating my Vista upgrades through Windows but to no avail. I am very frustrated to say the least. Something is blocking the connecton and I just can't figure it out! UGH!

Any ideas? Thanks again for your help

The 9630 doesn't have wi-fi. Are you using a third party app or paying vzw to tether?

Can you describe what steps they had you do to get it working temporarily? This may help determining why it only works temp.

Do you have the newest version of VZ access installed on your laptop?

Why pay VZ? Pay 1 time for Tether and be done with it. Works AWESOME on XP PRO, Vista and 7. Super easy!!!

Works awesome until VZW catches you and they suspend your account, and they will.

I suspect that using Tether would probably simplify the connection that the OP is having. If she chooses to abide by the terms of her contract and pay for tethering is her business. Whether they would catch her if she doesn't pay is probably a function of how much she uses it.

i also tether using VZ access manager through Verizon wireless. i have had the same issues with my Visa laptop. the only thing i could do to fix it is get the older version of the software. i use version 6.9.0. its the only one that seems to consistently work. whenever i attempt to use a more current version i lose my drivers and have to go back to step one.

Question for WMEYER, how does VZ catch you tethering?

If you tether for say 1 hour a day, for 5 days of the month; they are unlikely to catch you, as the data usage, could be considered usage from your BB.
However, if you tether for 6 hours a day, every day they know that you cannot be using that much data, and realise you must be using your BB in a way that violates their terms and conditions.

I have the same issue to TETHER my XP Toshiba Satellite laptop. It works fine with my VISTA HP and DELL laptop running Windows XP. I concluded it is my computer and not the software. I'd still like to know what the problem is

I had to OP's issue just the other day on the train. Laptop simply wouldn't recognize the BB although it had another time. I finally checked the screen which was awaiting a response to allow/disallow mass storage access (I have it set to prompt). Once I responded everything lit up.

I am trying to tether my 9630 to my Dell laptop. I never had a problem when I did this with my curve. I uninstuled the old version of VZaccess and instuled the new version. I have contacted verizon numerous times and they just walk me threw the same steps that doesn't fix the problem. Verizon told me to contact Dell I did that and they want $150 before they will help. The message I get is "cannot detect device" I know it detects the phone just won't let me connect to internet. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP???

Perhaps using the SEARCH feature and reading the FAQ would be a better solution than hijacking an old thread?
