Default handset doesn't pick up signal when moving into area with reception

I have seen a lot of people with the same problem. My workplace has no mobile signal. When I leave work however my phone stays on SOS and doesn't realise it has moved into an area with a signal. I have to turn my phone off and on before it pings and realises it has a signal. Also sometimes my phone shows full 3g signal and people calling go straight through to answerphone. I am on orange uk and all my phones software is up to date. This is driving me mad

I haven't had that issue, but I'm aware of issue with switching to EDGE when 3G becomes too weak. Maybe the issue you have is technically part of the same general problem area, but I have no idea. Anyway, if you are not using the latest OS, you might try upgrading and seeing if there is improvement.

Ahh, I missed that.

I'm curious, does it seem to make a difference if you've been out of signal range for a relatively long time versus just a short period.

I can imagine there's a power saving feature where the device increases the time it waits to try again as the time without signal increases. Thus if you've been out of range for a long time, you may just be observing the device in a long pause before trying again to connect. But just guessing.
