Default Getting a new Blackberry - Recommendation?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all. I'm getting a new Blackberry at work. I have a choice between the Storm2 9550 and the Tour 9630. Any recommendations on which one I should pick?

Thanks.

Having owned neither but having tested both... I would advise to get the 'Tour' - the 'Storm' is a failed experiment (imo)

I have seen the storm - although it is a pretty phone - it does nto have the kind of a feel a blackberry has - a keypad!! that is the best thing about a Blackberry - QWERTY. stick to the QWERTY and you are good to go!

9700 all the way, this beats anything hands down for speed, set your track speeds at 80% and look out. Finger touch speeds are still a long way from being quick.

So the OP has a choice between the Storm 2 9550 and the Tour 9630 and you suggest the 9700. May I ask why? The 9550 and 9630 are what are offered by their carrier.

A question: Why are you looking at CDMA devices when your carrier (per your profile) is GSM? Or is your work on CDMA (Verizon or SPRINT?)

My suggestion would be for you to go to your carrier's local store and lay with each device. If you like touch screens, then the Storm/9550 might be good. If not then the 9630 or the newer 9650.

Thanks everyone for the advice/opinions. Per the comment above, I am being switched to Verizon and these are my only two options.

As much as the Storm intrigues me, I'll probably end up going with the Tour.

Thanks again everyone!

The new Bold 9650, which would have been called the "Tour 2" if RIM didn't want to distance themselves from the original Tour name, is now out on Sprint. Verizon can't be far behind. It's FAN-tastic.

Double the Tour's internal memory.
WiFi
Trackpad replaces the rolling trackball.

Default My Opinion

Hello Robertc,

If your going to be using the device primarily for e-mail/messaging, go with the Tour.

I have a Storm (provided by work), and unfortunately it's a pain for e-mails/messaging (I'm running the latest OS, updating did not significantly improve performance for me). I have tried Storm 2s as well, and although the touchscreen was improved it is still unacceptable for me/my use.

I would agree that's the Storm models are a failed experiment, a weak attempt to cut into the iPhone market share. RIM should stick to what they do best IMHO.

Just my $.02.

Kind Regards.

Wirelessly posted (Sprint Tour 9630)

I have The tour and think that it is great. It doesn't have wifi, but 3G coverage is everywhere on cdma networks. I have sprint and live in a very rural area, and have 3G coverage. The camera is great, it has ample memory and battery life. OS 5 is available now for the tour which in my eyes, makes it as good as the bold! I don't prefer touch screen phones though.
