Default 7 keeps coming in as Z when im on the dialing screen

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

From the home screen when i press the green call button, i land up at the dial screen with all the recent numbers listed below and a space at the top to enter in the number i want to call right ? When i dial in the number i want to call, 7 appears as Z, 1 appears as W and so on. Makes it tough to call numbers. Best thing is its erratic. When i repeat the same number 3 times after cancelling. The 7 comes out right. So it doesnt repeat the problem ditto. This makes it very frustrating to use. Any ideas please ?

Thanks

The 'ALT' key toggles numbers/letters in the Phone app.

So I'd check if the toggle is ON - you can tell its active when theres an arrow at the corner of your screen pointing upward.

Wirelessly posted

That sounds like normal blackberry behavior, it first tries to look up the names you have saved in your address book, that is it shows the alphabets and when it fails to find a match it shows the numbers. I'm wondering if you
a) add your numbers to the address book then instead of dialing numbers you start off by dialing the names to look them up or if you
b) first concentrate on just typing the whole number first then only check whole number before you hit green dial key again to make the call
Could that help?

If its trying to look up names how come the first 4 nos are numbers and the 5th number alone turns to z. Also why is it if i exit and retry after 2 or 3 times it dials correctly. ???? thats what confuses me a lot.

Test the keyboard to make sure you have no hardware problems. Open memopad and start typing a sentence or two. If you start getting incorrect responses, you know something is truly broken.

Have absolutely no problems in memopad whatsoever. The phone is impeccably maintained. I hardly use it and i handle these things a little too carefully. I would like to also point that i posted a thread just a week after i got the phone itself that half the short cuts which are supposed to work from the home screen do not work in my case. Such as m for messages etc. Only a few of the shortcuts work as per the chart specific to this model. But there are no eroors or mispelled alphabets when using the keyboard in composing messages etc.

Take it back.

Shortcuts depend on the theme you are using tho, nonetheless if you think you have a bad phone just "take it back".

I wish i could but this was a non returnable purchase from an ebay seller. I think ill tolerate this for awhile and then go for a javelin or something like that. Meanwhile if someone can help correct this will be helpful.
