Default Can i delete apps that i dont need but came with the OS (Curve 8310)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

When you go into OPTIONS > ADVANCED > APPLICATIONS, It allows delete in the menu. Can i delete applications from here and gain better performance and free up some memory. If yes then id like to check with you guys as to which of the programs which came basically with the OS i can safely delete without any side effects.

Thanks

Yes you can.

It depends on what you use. Some people don't use BBM and VAD and decide to delete them. Some others use them and don't delete them.

Look up John Clark's Memory Optimization thread. It goes into good detail about this topic.

Correct, it is BBM. VAD is Voice Activated Dialing. MDS is Mobile Data Service. This is used for devices on BES. BB Maps is a map application, like Google Maps.

I have BB Maps listed in my applications list in OPTIONS > ADVANCED > APPLICATIONS. But where is the maps app on the home screen. And will these maps work anywhere in the world or only a particular area ? USA only sort of. Also there is no application on my home screen that alllows to use maps ? How do i see maps ? If its not going to be of use. Can i delete it too.

Also when i refer to delete.. Should i only delete via the DM. Etc. Because i read the John Clark article and it looks like most of this is a OS upgrade stage or new Phone stage process. I was looking at just deleting these from the Applications list on the phone (OPTIONS > ADVANCED > APPLICATIONS). Will that suffice ?

If the answer is yes then im mainly looking at deleting BB Maps, BB MDS Runtime, BB MDS Default Launcher, Email setup (I have no BIS) is this imperative if i ever want to use email via gprs in the future ?, TTY Support ?

My phone has the Voice Command logo and its working from the home screen. But i dont see it listed within the OPTIONS > ADVANCED > APPLICATIONS so i dont know how to delete that.

Thanks

Maps may be hidden or in a folder. From the Home screen, Press the Menu Key and select Show All. See if there are any grayed out icons. I am not sure if it'll work in your area.

You can delete them from either DM or the device. I don't believe you can remove the Email Setup icon. You can delete the others. If you want to delete VAD, you will have to follow JC's steps. TTY support is for HOH/deaf users.

If you mess anything up, you can always reinstall your OS and everything will be back to normal.

As I said before, MDS is used for devices on a BES.

You can delete Password Keeper if you don't plan on using it.

BES is for corporate users. You don't need to worry about it or any MDS application.

Thanks JS.

I have so far deleted the above discussed components and have recovered about 5 mb of memory. Something is better than nothing right.

Is there a way to delete the default video media player that came with the OS ?

Thanks
