For those who are on Verizon and have skype on their blackberry, I would like to know how it is working. Can you make calls on Skype without additional charges? Also does anyone know if this could come to Sprint soon?

And for reasons I don’t completely understand, Skype Mobile works only over Verizon’s 3G network, not Wi-Fi–which is the opposite of the situation on the iPhone, where you can only call over Wi-Fi, not the AT&T network.

Hi. I just tried an ota download -- per this link that the 8830 is "Supported but not for sale." On my 8830 it gave me this message: "Sorry, Skype mobile is not available for your phone. Switch to one of Verizon's best selling BlackBerry and Android 3G smartphones."

I'm running OS v4.5.0.127 (platform 3.4.0.2.0). Not the absolute latest, but within 4.5. Any ideas why it won't work?

Has anyone gotten it to work on an 8830?

Neill111, I'm having the same problem with the Storm 9530... I'm guessing it is a website issue detecting the proper device when you browse to it with our Blackberries. I'm not sure if it is affecting other models yet.. trying to get my hands on a Storm2 in order to test it out. Hope they get it fixed soon!

Update... still not working, but here is my correspondence with Skype tech support in case it helps anyone else.

First they said:

"We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with downloading the Skype mobile? application onto your BlackBerry 8830 World Edition mobile phone.

In order to solve this issue we kindly ask you to clean the cache/memory on your BlackBerry phone.

Instructions:
1. Please navigate to Menu > Options > Security Options > Memory Cleaning > choose "Enable" and Save the settings; 2. Now please restart your phone; 3. After the restart please try to download the Skype application again from our web page: Download Skype for your mobile


We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience."

That didn't solve it for me. Ultimately, they have said the following:

"Thank you for the additional information.

We have reported this issue to our development team and we are working hard on fixing it as soon as possible.

We kindly ask you to be patient while we are working on a solution for this problem.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause."

If anyone else gets theirs working, please post that information with your OS Rev. I'll update this when I make further progress (hopefully).
