Default New OEM BlackBerry Holster

Please Login to Remove!

Purchased a new BlackBerry 8700 for the wife today and the holster that comes with it is slightly different than the one I got months ago with mine. It has a teflon piece at the top to protect the area above the earpiece of the Blackberry.

I also noticed that her BlackBerry backlight is not as bright as mine.

Pics were to large to attach so here are the links

I dropped my BlackBerry a while ago in between my seats and I thought the damage was that, when the actual damage is come from the holster.

Yeah! lol

That is a bummer. I'd like a new one but probably wouldn't buy one.

I replaced my 8700c a couple of weeks ago and it came with the new style holster. The new holster has the same part number (ASY-10458-001) as the old style.

Well hopefully they'll be available through the Blackberry site soon.

I've noticed some scratches on the left side of my screen that can only be coming from the holster- nothing else ever touches the front of screen area. I insert it carefully and "pop" it up and out rather than sliding it up so there must be a very small protrusion on the holster that I can barely feel. Hope this new one eliminates that problem.

And I want the leather pouch and holster anyway... I hear available later in the month.

That case clearly isn't enough of a design change to warrant purchase. For those of you experiencing surface abrasion from the holster, why not just affix a piece of felt or the like to address the problem?

I guess.

I just feel if they made a design change it's obviously for a reason. Therefore, why shouldn't we have the updated version. :(

i agree, RIM didn't just slap on a piece of rubber to make it look better. The holster modifications obviously serve a very large purpose and i would be willing to bet the modifications address more than just one concern that we had.

Completely off topic post: Hi Brad. I bought that T637 from you a while back. I got a BB too. Funny seeing you here....

On topic: my 8700 has the old style holster, but no scratches (yet). I got it 12/12, so it's got to be a very recent development.

Ehan..you are correct it is not rubber and I noted that it was rubber "like". I was at a loss of words to describe it.

Default No rubber

Just got my 8700r yesterday Jan 10 and no rubber bumper. Will put a double-thich strip of electrical tape inside holster which should solve any potential scratch issues

Yea, in some ways i believe that just putting some felt or something of that nature on there would work out better than getting that new holster. That is assuming that that is the only thing different between the new and the old. My bet is that they may have made it more tight fitting so that the blackberry doesn't fall out as much. I know that was one of the big complaints.

I have the "old" holster too, dammit, but no holster scratches yet... For a different purpose (jury-rigging my old BB7290 Proclip car holder to hold the smaller 8700), I've been wondering if there's such a thing as self-adhesive neoprene rubber (the kind used in wetsuits)? Anyone seen such a thing?

Strips of that might offer a temporary and neat fix...

Regardless, it would be cool if RIM offered a free exchange of holsters, wouldn't it? I hate feeling like we early adopters are a buncha beta testers until they get stuff right. I know; ain't gonna happen...
