Gmail IMAP support
Please Login to Remove!
Hi all,
I am currently an iPhone user, looking to switch to a BB as my needs have no changed and the BB would suit purpose better. However I have been doing research into email support, specifially IMAP Gmail, but all the pages I have found suggest problems with 2-way syncing.
However all these pages seem to be over a year old, and I was just wondering if someone could clarify what the currently capabilities of BB are with regards to IMAP and Gmail.
Many Thanks
Jonny

Gmail does not have two-way reconciliation with BB. Yet.

I have gmail setup for IMAP, it works fine for the most part. The only minor problem I have noticed is if you delete an email on your computer it will not delete the same email off of your Blackberry inbox, but if you delete an email from your Blackberry it will delete it from Gmail inbox.

It's amazing how many people don't understand what IMAP really is. DC/DC is right... and to make it a more general comment, the BlackBerry does not support IMAP for any e-mail account.
This is my only real complaint of the BlackBerry system. Why, after all these years, IMAP is not supported is a frustrating mystery for me. That said, BES works great, and Gmail support isn't terrible. Yahoo e-mail support isn't bad either.

Using the now default way of connecting to a Gmail account, mail deleted at Gmail IS deleted on my BB, but it normally takes several hours to reconcile in that direction.

I have not seen that either.
What Gmail setup are you using that you get 2 way reconciliation?

2 Way IMAP Support should be rolled out in the next few months, whether it requires OS 5.0 is another story.
I think I'll test out this rumored 2 way reconciliation tonight, I'm way behind on personal emails.

I'll certainly cede the testing to someone with >5400 posts. Look forward to seeing your results...

Deleted quite a few emails from the Web interface of GMail, I will leave them on my BlackBerry to see if they disappear without me manually deleting them. I want to test this rumor myself (once and for all )
I am running an 8330/OS 4.5, with the Gmail Plug-In. I'll post back in a few days, if anyone wants a follow-up after a day or so send me a PM. Reminder are always good

I'm curious where you are getting this info. I'd like to read up on how much IMAP support will be implemented. If done right, this could take care of the biggest complaint I have with BlackBerries.

Well hot damn! It worked! It took about 10 minutes, but I deleted a message from Gmail, and it was gone from my device when I last looked.
I'm now waiting to see if read status will update on a different message.
This is with a 9700, OS 5.0, T-Mobile.

...as in you read it on your PC and hope to have the read status reflected on the BlackBerry? Don't think so.

Correct, and I would tend to agree, but up until a few minutes ago, I didn't think items deleted on the PC would be removed from the device either.

Unless something has changed very recently, however, read status is still not supported from the PC to the BlackBerry. I try and check this frequently, because, as I said before, IMAP support (even this very basic functionality) is something I really, really want.
In the interest of finding out myself, I have a message on the BlackBerry that was read online via Gmail, and it still shows unread on the BlackBerry. It has been showing as unread on the BlackBerry for 12 minutes now.
Strange, though, because if the e-mail is read on the BlackBerry, it is almost instantaneously marked as read on Gmail.

This is my finding as well, but I think the 2-way deleted items reconciliation is a step in the right direction.

Agreed. Definitely getting closer, but still not quite there yet.
