Hi guys

When I go back to work next week I have to patch my SQL Database server, but I forget the impact a reboot of this will have on the BES service. I think the last time I tried I was prevented from sending Email, and I assume receiving it also. If the part about the BES holding "cache" info regarding the database is correct then great, though my memory of the last reboot doesn't suggest so.

I read following old post, but it didn't seem very definite with its conclusions.

Anyone know for sure and have the technical reasoning?

BES 5.0 HA (No Database clustering though)

SQL downtime will rarely have any negative impact on BES functionality at all.
BES can operate just fine without a SQL connection for limited periods of time.
A couple of things to note, however:
~ Don't leave SQL down for an extended period of time (many hours).
~ Don't reboot BES while SQL is down. BES will not restart.
~ Don't stop/start any BES services while SQL is down. The services will not start back up.
