Default How to Control Spam

Please Login to Remove!

I just got am BB 8700c. I set up my email to forward from yahoomail. But now all I get is a never ending supply of spam. Yahoo does a decent job of filtering spam, but it seems that when you set up your BB to receive email from yahoomail it bypasses the filter and sends everything to the BB. I get buzzed all night long with xxxxxx and Mortgage adds. I would turn the BB off but I need to receive text pages from the office 24/7. Help! Any suggestions?

A lot of folks here (myself included) forward everything through gmail first. I'm not familiar with yahoo mail and how their filters work but gmail is great!

if understand this correctly, spam is only filtered by the email server, say bellsouth, comcast for POP 3 or gmail etc for html? is there no effective way to filter out the garbage through the webclient?
thanks

The webclient doesn't have any spam filters that I know of. It will send whatever it receives. I suppose you could set up your own filters on there to not forward certain messages based on content, but that's a lot of work. Like I said, gmails filters work great, and filter all email, not just html mail.

You definitely need to filter spam before mail reaches the web client (BWC/BIS).

I am also new to Blackberry and have been getting alot of Spam sent to my BB. On my desktop computers it doesn't bother me because I use Spambayes and it is very good in sending all spam to a Junk email folder. However, the BB client picks up all that is on my pop server and sends it to the BB.

I just got off the phone with tech support at Rogers to try and create filters. I noticed that most spam uses weird names in the "Send To:" field or it's just blank. I'm trying to make filters to send nothing to the BB unless it contains these "names" in the Send To field. I hope that will knock out most of the spam.

Default SPAM on my Verizon 7250 all of a sudden!

It began early this week. About three emails a day, all SPAM, all from the same Hotmail address.

I went into my Blackberry webmail client and set up a filter that blocks ALL Hotmail stuff (nobody I correspond with uses Hotmail, luckily).

It ain't the most ideal solution, but until Blackberry implements their own SPAM filters, whatjagonnado?

(I could do the Gmail thing, but that setup doesn't meet my current needs)

Rogers has its own SPAM filters, when you enable them in your account all messages Rogers considers to be SPAM are not forwarded to your blackberry.
When I mentioned Rogers tech support it was Rogers for my Blackberry account. Rogers is not my pop account. I assume that you are talking about Rogers being your email provider.

I have a Yahoo account and have it forwarded to my BB. I don't get much in the regards of SPAM because the BULK folder catches all that and I have the YOPS configurednot to forwarded that. I have Gmail, but don't really use it except for the registering thing.

You can set up some basic filters on the BWC. I have another POP3 address coming into the BB and I was geeting some OEM, xxxxxx, Meredia and Corel Draw SPAM email everyday. I went into the BWC and set up the filters for each of them and had them sent to a certain folder and not forwarded to the handheld.

It has worked great since I set up the filters.

Just ignore them. Not too many to bother doing anything about it.

Wirelessly posted (your electric?: BlackBerry7100i/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/103 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/5.1.2.16)

I have started getting a ton of spam thru Hotmail ever since I started it up again (haven't used the account in years). What I do is everytime I get a new spam message I go to hotmail.com, mark it as junk email, and then out it on the block sender list. I do this at least once every 2-3 days. The only reason I use this account again is for forums and stuff of that nature. I could turn it down since the account is so old I can retrieve it thru webclient without needing to pay the extra for pop3. Also that virus software that is out for the bb also seems to be a spam blocker from the looks of it, might give that a try. pink

Angry junk email

I use BES and while MSExchange puts junk email in a separate folder on by BB it comes through. How can I get it to NOT let that thru (for example on my desk top, all the spam/junk is in a separate folder.)
