Unhappy Email Icons on 8900 disappeared!!!!

Please Login to Remove!

Greetings, I just posted the following message but have not seen it appear yet. I am posting it again with additional info I forgot to mention:

I am a new BB user and I love the phone. I have a Curve 8900. But earlier this week my phone froze, so I pulled the battery to get it up and running again. When it came back up both of my email icons had disappeared. And it suddenly ran up to about 700 emails!!!. Later I also did a soft set; no change; then I deleted and reentered both of my email accounts. The number of emails came back to normal but I still have no icons to open them. I did an 'advanced options' default services w no luck. At first I found the emails but it would not let me open them. The phone froze up again and now that icon is gone also. Please help!!! I need some other suggestions. I did get one suggestion from AT&T forums but it was not helpful.

Also: I got this message on my phone: "Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException."

Ok. Let's get to a baseline. Do another hard reset. Remove the battery and wait a good 30 seconds or more. Then let the blackberry boot up.
Are there any error messages? Are the email folders back?

If no email folders, see http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.p...rvice_books%3F. Follow the instructions and then see where you stand.

Also, while you have the battery out, if you are using a media card, remove it for the time being.

Well, I did the hard reset ( had a really hard time getting that media card out. I think I might have ruined it. No big deal.) I also tried a back up data w the BB Desktop Manager and kept getting the message that my device did not connect --first time that has happened. ) After the hard reset I got the same Error Message I noted before ---
< Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException >--
I live in a "no service' area so will have to take my computer to town tomorrow and work on it there. I apparently need data to do the process the BB site recommends. I do have wifi but need more apparently. I will update you after that. Thanks for you help.

Did you change theme before the problem happened? I know that on some devices theme could make some application hidden. Try to change to another theme and see if you're lucky.

I did change the theme and one of the email icons came back up briefly but I can't open it -- and then the clock icon disappeared. Very strange. I am going to try the other option now that I am in town. If it doesn't work, can I just get a new phone? I only bought this about 2 mos ago.

Well, now my options icon has disappeared so I can't check the status. When I tried to pull the battery to find the pin # I them got a message that I would have to use my phone connect to service books. I am very sorry to sound so whiney but I am VERY frustrated with this whole process. I am ready to quit and just call AT&T and see if can get a new phone. This is maddening.

Default Always resend your service books

Resending your 'service books' fixes quite alot in blackberry email.

To access Options without the icon, do the following:

1. Press the green call button to get up the dialer
2. Press menu and go to the Options menu item
3. Go to General Options
4. For the 'Dial from Home Screen' option set it to 'No'
5. Save and go back to home screen
6. Press 'o' to load Options

If you're struggling with icons, the following also work:

m - messages
b - browser
c - address book
f - profiles

Once you're done, just set 'Dial from Home Screen' back to Yes.
