Default Bold 9000

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

I have a BOLD 9000 Smartphone, V4.6.0.266 (4.0.0.223) - no updates available for it according to Desktop Manager.

Whether I am connected to a Blackberry Enterprise Server or "wiped" and running as a standalone BIS connected Smartphone, I get a Calendar problem.

If I create a Calendar entry, let's say between 14:00 and 17:00, It only shows that the meeting is between 14:00 and 15:00 (Seems to default to showing just a one-hour duration). I I go into the appointment details it correctly states that the meeting runs from 14:00 to 17:00.

This is a rather big inconvenience for me because if i were to glance at the calendar and see an appoinment that displays as running for 1 hour, yet is actually for 3 hours, it could cause problems.

I have wiped the device many times, connected to BES and been removed from it, yet the issue remains. Is this a known problem with the BOLD 9000?

I cant tell if it affects others because no-one in my area has a Blackberry to check on.

.266 is fairly outdated handheld code.
Try upgrading the device to something newer and see if this resolves itself. COuld just be a bug in the old code.

Guys,

I'm making every effort i can do update my hanhdled and I keep getting a "FGJS$%" message stating I am "connected to a BES and therefore cannot perform an update". I am the BES administrator, and I don't intend to make OTA OS updates available via the BES system, all devices are personally owned.

Yes, I have configured Desktop manager 5.0.1 to integrate with my Exchange system, but why should that prevent me from upgrading the OS? My BES IT policy is the default, nothing restricted.

Current device stats are V4.6.0.266 and I have downloaded 4.6.0.519 (4.6.0.304). I upgraded desktop manager to 5.0.1, installed the software and I just cant get the bold 9000 to upgrade. I wiped the handheld to disconnect from BES, same issue.

I read somewhere that you need to remove desktop manager, re-install it and dont configure it to your Email environment. Surely I don't have to do that to perform a Device upgrade just because I am connected to a BES? (5.0)

Anyone know what is going on?

OK, after a lot of swearing I have managed to get this handheld updated. This was my first go at it and in the end I downloaded 3 different Bold 9000 packages before the 3rd one was recognised by Desktop Manager and allowed me to update. The packages I tried, and the one that worked are below:

1)9000jEastAsia_PBr4.6.0_rel524_PL4.0.0.248_A4.6.0 .307_SK_Telecom.exe
2)9000M_PBr4.6.0_rel519_PL4.0.0.247_A4.6.0.304_AT_ amp_T.exe
3)9000M_PBr4.6.0_rel518_PL4.0.0.248_A4.6.0.303_Ora nge_UK.exe - This one worked

I used BB desktop Manager 5.0.1 with all of them, but the first 2 just weren't recognised by BBDM, despite numerous uninstalls, re-installs, reboots, device wipes, Device removals from BES etc.

Does anyone know what I missed that made this soo difficult? I downloaded BBDM 5, installed the OS software and then plugged in device, but for the first 2 packages this just would not work?

Is it a geographical thing as I am in the UK?

Incidentally, I am now on V4.6.0.303 (Platform 4.0.0.248) and the Calednar issue I reported is still there. I called my carrier 5 minutes ago to ask them about it, they weren't very useful I must say, and they said it looks like it is a design decision!

Am I being a little particular or does that seem like a rather large design flaw with the Bold 9000? (Apparently my carrier noticed the same thing on an 8310)

Sounds like you didn't delete the vendor.xml file after you installed the OS to your PC.
If the OS was distributed by a carrier other than the carrier branded on your handheld, this would be a required step.

I am on V4.6.0.307 now and the Calendar appointment duration problem is still there. OH well, seems like the Bold 9000 and some other handhelds just display it like this by design (For some inexplicable reason from my point of view, I just cannot see the benefit, though i can definitely see the drawbacks).

Ignore all comments regarding Calendar duration problems. I just figured out what I have not been "seeing" (I forgot how it works). Entirely my fault, I am a doofus.
