Default Please help, problems with Curve 8520.

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I've never owned a BlackBerry before and this morning my Blackberry Curve 8520 arrived.

I'm from the UK and bought the phone pay as you go on Orange, so the phone isn't unlocked or anything and I am using the simcard that came in the package.

I inserted the simcard and battery and turned the phone on, went through the set-up screens, connected to my house's Wi-Fi etc and can use the browser just fine.

But when I try to make phone calls it comes up as 'call failed', even the Orange numbers such as 343 and 450. The only number I can call is 999. I've also tried to download AppWorld and it says that my BlackBerry isn't compatible, how can that be?

Another odd thing is that nowhere on my phone or in any of the documents/packaging is any details of my new phone number. When I look on the BlackBerry it comes up and number unknown, so I can't get anyone to ring me to see if I can even receive calls.

Thanks for any help, I'm going kida crazy here!

Oh and also, the BlackBerry came with a 2GB micro SD card already inserted into it, is that normal?

More than likely, you simply need to contact Orange and ask them to set up your account.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I was under the impression that I had to phone the number 343 from the BlackBerry once I had inserted the sim card to get it all going. But how can I do that if it won't let me call?

*confused!*

Perhaps use a landline, payphone, neighbour's phone to phone their call center (not 343) or visit an Orange shop?
