Porting a number should take between a couple minutes to a couple hours at most. Sometimes due to glitches it will take longer or up to a week. I've had issues with it before but most of the time it's very smooth.
Edit: What happened in your situation?
First I was told I couldn't port my number. Then I was told it would take up to 30 days to port my number. I went into the AT&T store tonight and they did it within 20 minutes. I didn't appreciate being given the run around.

My best guess is that you were dealing with one random idiot.

Wait until Lunkhead hears what you called him

It is 1 am and I'm awake. Normally that would mean I'm up to something, but right now I have swine flu and just can't get comfortable. BTW I have never been hit by a truck before, but I imagine this is what it would feel like.

It was running rampant in the call center I work in, many around me were in the hopsitol for days and said they felt their whole bodies in pain and could not move.
I don't wish that on anyone, feel better so you can keep up the banning

The stuff flies over cubicle walls (aka: Pigs Flying) - and your neighbors probably thought they just had the flu! -
Get better soon - (They miss you at the call center... ( trust me on this one - it is near the holidays!))
