Default Adult Filter for BIS Storm 9530

Please Login to Remove!

I would really appreciate help to find/setting up a filter to limit the access of content, eliminate adult content, from my blackberry. If no other options are availiable I am willing to delete the browser, if someone could tell me how, step by step, as I am a new BB user. I would appreciate serious and techinical support answer instead of judgemental babbling. Additionally I still need access to my emails and several applications. Would deleting the browser cut off all access to my interenet based apps, or not? I have heard on a BES someone coudl set us a corporate filter, or use websense or something, but I am on BIS and Verizon does not have the capabilities to limit the internet content being accessed. Thanks in advance. Oh and please do not post any pc-content filters that do not work on BB. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums

This has been discussed before.

Take a look here

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...not-again.html

Also, deleting your browser will not affect any other functions of the device. However you will not be able to install OTA applications.

Default Thanks, what next?

I am sorry for the newbie question, but what do I do after deleting the
"net_rim_bb_browser_daemon.cod" file? Do I try to update my BB from my computer, how does this reset things, w/out the browser? Thanks.

1. On the PC, go to C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\ResearchInMotion\Share d\LoaderFiles\OS version\Java.
Find the .cod named net_rim_bb_browser_dameon and delete it, or create a folder named something like "removed" and move the cod to your new folder.

2. Plug in device and open DM > AppLoader > Add/Remove Programs and work your way through the process to remove the net_rim_bb_browser_dameon module. You won't notice any changes until after you see the Application loader screen, don't click any check boxes, just click Next, and then Finish. ONLY after clicking Finish will you see a quick notice that the browser_daemon module is being removed.
Close DM on completion. Allow your device to reboot.

You'll get a java error upon reboot and anytime you reboot the device. Ignore it.

Default Still didnt work

Thanks for the help, I thought it was going to work I did as you had said and after the DM was finished it said there was an error that the file could not be found, so it was terminated. So I thought Bingo, but when i rebooted I did not recieve a message error and am still able to get on the web. Is it possible I need to delete some additional browser files such as : net_rim_bb_browser.cod, net_rim_bb_browser_field_api.cod ect......

Default Any other suggestions.

Alrite that did not work, but I am sure we are on the right track somewhere, any other advice. Another point of interest is in the DM It lets me unclick the Browser so I can delete it, but when i do so it doesnt save the changes on my BB. Hence I have unlimited access ot the interenet.

As stated above, removing the .cod should delete the Browser. Since that didn't work, could you simply hide the icon? Out of sight, out of mind? It's not a perfect solution, but do you think it would work?

Default thanks.

Yeah I thought of that one already. Do you know of any developers who are working on such a firewall that have an estimated, release date, I know SafeEyes was buyt it has gone to the wayside due to new OS releases and such, or a possible additional tech info on how to delete the browser. I appreciate your help so far. Thanks

I had the same question as OP. I have a brand new blackberry with the OS already loaded on it. I downloaded the OS to my computer as well and then went to C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\ResearchInMotion\Share d\LoaderFiles\OS version\Java. and removed the file net_rim_bb_browser_dameon.

When i went to the application loader and Add/Remove Programs, nothing was updated...

Any suggestions? Id really like to remove the browser completely or password protect it.

Thanks!
