IM+ I found to be terrible even when I tried it on the Treo 650. Yet, the instant messenger that you choose depends on your needs or what you want. I'm using Verichat and I really like it. I usually chat on Yahoo and AIM. Yak-On from what I've read and seen online seems to be very user friendly and the price is good especially since it is a one-time fee. I like the way that Verichat has the bots and the user interface is very much like the regular messenger that you use on your desktop.

My suggestion, as someone else has suggested previously, is that you try out the various messengers during the trial period to see which one you like best.

For those of you who use MSN Messenger only I suggest checking out QuickIM vsn 2.0. I used the trial and recently purchased it. It's a great for MSN. Data friendly, no disconnects and it's a one time fee only.

yeah i know, i really love verichat too, but yearly subscription is ridiculous, not to mention yahoo!/aim/msn on other "smartphones/phones" come free, why should we have to pay yearly for it, especially an IM client, but that's thrid party software for ya, the prices on some of this shit is unbelievable, not to mention you already paid a lot for the device itself than have to shell out more money to get more "features" but i digress, it's a neverending cycle for some

i've used webmessenger, im+, and verichat.......and verichat is the best app by far. Second would be webmessenger, however if you have a lot of contacts between aim, yahoo, and msn, then webmessenger is a pain to use because it becomes very slow while it attempts to load all the contacts including offline contacts and often times u will get a warning msg saying more than 50 contacts exceeded....blah blah......in any case it loads everything slowly. IM+ 's interface i found very lacking and well, not very visually appealing.

Verichat seems to have everything in a well packaged interface plus a very fast speed, and when you go into an area without service and back into an area with service, it will reconnect quickly. If you can, go with verichat.

I tried Verichat and Yak-ok. Neither worked with MSN. I even exchanged a ton of emails with Yak-On including sending them my logs, still no help and not working. Dissapointed.

Default Yak-On

I downloaded Yak-On from my 8700c and haven't been able to make a
connection on AIM.

I see the message "AIM Signing in..." at the top of the display for
about 10-20 seconds at which time the message changes to "Yak-On Buddy
Lists." I don't get any error messages, but I'm not connected to the
AIM servers. I've tried this a few times.

I also downloaded the Yak-On prefs file before the application (as instructed) and I know my BB settings are accurate, as I've been using Verichat for
the past month with no problem. Any idea what the problem could be?

I get the same thing. And I have verified that the settings are right. I also tried Ramble and that did not work either. Have yet to try Verichat.

No luck with Ramble either. I'm beginning to understand why Verichat can get away with charging a fee each *year*. Not that I'd ever pay a yearly fee, but others who just want something that works might.

I got Yak-On to work great for AIM on my 8700c, love it. The only thing I do which varies from the install instructions, is I left my TLC setting to proxy, it would work as handheld, but lock up, I have had no issues with it and proxy. I also installed it on my 7290 before I swapped them out, no problems there either.

I think I've narrowed the Yak-On issue down to my "user@mac.com" AIM handle. Every AIM client I've used has no problem with my .Mac account (including Verichat). When I test Yak-On using a standard AIM account name, no problem. Hence, I don't think Yak-On handles [email address] AIM handles.

Pity...

ATTENTION ALL CINGULAR USERS OF THE 8700c:

In order to get the web messenger clients and chat services to work, such as AIM, Yahoo Messenger, & MSN, etc. you have to call cingular and ask to have the data connect services added to your plan on top of the Blackberry Unlimited Connect Service. The data connect is a free add-on once you have the Blackberry Unlimited. Just explain to them that you want to be able to use the messenging clients and the customer service agent will assist you. The Data connect opens up the WAP port so you can connect to those services.

DONT ASK FOR WAP FEATURE ASK FOR THE DATA CONNECT ADD ON

You Must Input Manually before then:

1. Go to Settings
2. click > Options
3. click > Advanced Options
2. click > TCP
3. Input these WAP Settings (Case Sensitive)

APN: wap.cingular
Username for APN: [email address]
Password for APN: CINGULAR1

THIS SHOULD WORK IT WORKED GREAT FOR ME
I am using Webmessenger 2.3
GOOD LUCK!!!

I called and asked them to add the APN WAP feature, and it still would not work.

I wouldn't think it would.

Bummer that Yak-On has problems with .Mac usernames. It really is the first AIM client I've tried (Mac/PC/Palm/BlackBerry) that doesn't work with my [email address] handle.

To give Yak-On credit, their support team contacted me hours after my initial email. I have yet to hear back about my .Mac name, so perhaps they're looking into it. Let's hope it's something they can fix for their next revision.

Default Update: .Mac & Yak-On!

I received this from Softcentral this afternoon. I've been pretty impressed with Softcentral's communication thus-far. I trust they'll have a fix for this sometime soon...

Quote:
I think I have traced the issue down to how Yak On handles the username with an @ symbol in it, for AIM. I am researching a fix and will let you know when it is ready.

Thanks,
The Softcentral Team
