Default Unlocked???

Please Login to Remove!

I hate to sound so stupid, but what exactly does an "unlocked" 9530 mean?
It seems to me that you still must be on some carriers' network, so just what
are the advantages? The phones I see for sale seem very expensive when you compare them to simply extending your contract or upgrading if you are eligible. Any clarification will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron

Unlocking a GSM device makes it usable with any other GSM carrier.

I do understand that, but I don't understand what the advantage is in terms of dollars and cents, ie. what difference does it make who you write that check to every month?
Thanks,
Ron

The only things unlocking do is make the device usable for all GSM carriers and also good for going over seas to use a pay as you go sim. It helps in selling because it opens up to more buyers. Your phone plan doesn't change after unlocking, so in short if your selling a GSM have it unlocked for around 20 bucks and add money to your phone so people who have a carrier that doesn't offer that phone is now usable.

OK, that's starting to make sense.

OH- so "unlocking" doesn't give the user access to "phone memory" and folders there?

Anybody know how to do THAT?

This thread was about unlocking" in terms of using the device on another carrier.

Your question is about something else. Please start another thread of your own rather than hi-jacking this one. Thanks.

My apologies Mr. Sanders. As a moderator I assume you can PM me? I am afraid I was not able to find an obvious way to start a new thread after shuffling through several of them. Perhaps you can tell me the "usual" way to do that?

Thanks,
CT
