Default Possible issue with BPS and Tour?

Please Login to Remove!

I recently upgraded to the BB Tour from the Curve and am on a BES server. Its the Blackberry Professional Software v 4.1.4.15

I activated without an issue but when ever I receive an HTML email, it comes up as a blank email, with a text/plain attachment. When i try to open the attachment I get "This attachment type cannot be viewed on your device"

I have wiped the device and reactivated. Removed my account from the BES, wiped and device and reactivated, and neither helped.

We've narrowed down the problem to be a setting on the BES

We're using Exchange 2003 with Outlook 2003 & 2007 versions and it's happening with all HTML and RTF emails sent by us. OWA emails are fine and outside emails are fine. Even if someone responds to an HTML email originated by us, we can't read it on the Tour.

Checked every setting I could think of on the BES and found nothing to go on.

Any ideas? thanks for any help

BPS doesn't support HTML messages. You'll only get plain text.

Oh, I misunderstood your post. Sorry about that.
Not sure what's going on there.

Wirelessly posted

I am interested in knowing about the outcome of this. Are there any Tour and BPS users who are successfully receiving html emails to their BPS account, recognizing that due to BPS limitations these emails are necessarily plain text?

I am interested in the outcome, too. I upgraded to the Tour last week, and use BPS. Some HTML emails come across (as plain text, of course), but about 3 times a day I get the text/plain attachment that will not open. I have noticed that these emails always come in when there are in-line images and/or attachments in the original HTML email. "Regular" HTML emails (which then get converted to text to get sent to the BB device) come in fine.

More clues but the weirdness continues...

Someone else here bought a Tour and the problem DID NOT happen... (at first...) Our server was rebooted right before the 2nd Tour was purchased. The reason I mention that is we wiped and reactivated the 1st Tour after the reboot and the 1st Tour worked!

About a day later, the problem returned on BOTH Tours. NO CHANGES were made. They just flat out stopped being able to view HTML emails.

Now for the good news...

Thanks bbinge! I removed my signature from my HTML email as a test and it works fine! My signature has our logo in .GIF form.

I suspect it has something to do with the attachment service but everything is running and there are no errors in the Event Log.

I'm going to reboot the server tonight and see if they start working again.

Hopefully will have a solution soon...

Also running BPS v4.1.4.15 and having the same problem on the Tour. This never happened on the Curve. Quite annoying. Hope someone can come up with a solution soon.

There isn't a newer OS for the Tour yet that I know of. Just the one it came with.

I can't imagine there isn't a solution to this. This has got to be affecting a lot of business Tour users since any email with an attachment has this issue. You can't read the text part. Unless its a configuration issue on my end. I did a screen shot of how it looks like when I receive a email with attachment and when I try to open the text/plain.

OK, I found a solution for my issue after lots of Google searches today. It definitely looks like some 3rd party apps mess with the way messages are displayed. In my case, uninstalling both Visual Voice Mail and Pod Trapper got messages to work.

I was able to re-install visual voice mail after getting rid of Pod Trapper and it worked. Then, the latest Beta version of Pod Trapper has a fix for this problem: versatilemonkey[dot]com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=542 so I am able to run everything successfully now after some uninstalls and reboots.

Unfortunately, it is going to be different for everyone. I read another thread that said uninstalling the RSA Security app solved the problem, too. So, if you are having issues, I would suggest looking at your appplications (under options -> advanced) and see what programs are in bold (these are the apps that you have installed since the OS was installed). Try removing the apps one by one then rebooting. I would start with any apps that you think might be email related.

Good luck - this problem was driving me insane.
