Default A BB with lots of faults... please help?

Please Login to Remove!

I bought my BB on ebay about 4 months ago and it has several faults:

1) App error.
Every now and then the screen turns white and says: 'App error'. I have to reboot it, often several times until it starts working properly.

2) Internet charges
I have three SIM cards as I live in three different countries in Europe. Last month I was in England and used my Czech SIMcard (on a contract) for one day. I wasn't connected to the Internet, I only used it for phoning and texting. Next thing I know I have a phone bill for £200 for downloading 11MB on my blackberry. But I swear I didn't use the internet at all, and when I use my other SIM cards (Norwegian NetCom and British Orange, both pay as you go) in my Blackberry, it doesn't charge me for the Internet at all. I just don't get it... Basically I can't use my Czech SIM card in a blackberry without being charged a ridiculous amount of money for wap.

3) GPS
When I go to 'Maps', I can browse them without any problem but when I want to find 'where I am' it always searches for satellites for ages, then it shows a Bluetooth sign and says 'Connection to Blackberry failed'.
When I click on 'Enter address', it always says 'location not found'.

4) Facebook and MSN Messenger
I know it should be possible to update Facebook statuses as well as chat on MSN without actually being connected to the Internet but I have never been able to use them on my BB. I have downloaded Facebook and MSN messenger to my blackberry but neither applications would work even when I am connected to the internet.

Well, there's more but those are the major issues I've had with my blackberry.

I was thinking that maybe re-installing the whole system would work as that's what I do with my laptop. In this case, is it possible to somehow save my contacts into my laptop? And how do I reinstall it?

If someone could help me solve these issues, it would be much appreciated.

It appears that getting a BLACKBERRY data plan solves all the above problems

2. Your BlackBerry will use data, regardless if you don't. Connecting the device up on a foreign SIM will still use data. Turn data off at your Manage Connections > Mobile Network options.

3. GPS... Options > Advanced > GPS > Menu > Refresh GPS. Be outside in an open area with no tall buildings surrounding you. Allow it to refresh up to ten minutes, and try a second and third time if needed. You will need to Refresh the GPS anytime you travel far from your previous location (like on a flight) as the ephemeris tables must be downloaded for the device to know where to find the satellites.
ephemeris data - How-GPS-Works Glossary

And, ditto on the BlackBerry Data Plan, for those apps.
