Thanks. It's nice how the program lets you know when a new version is available. I've updated twice today.

I just uploaded a new version, version 0.5.2, which includes a few bug fixes.

The previous version arranges for BBScanner to appear in the system menus (like Pandora does) while the app is running. The version before that includes many start-up and shutdown speed improvements.

You can download BBScanner over-the-air from BBScanner: Listen to police and fire scanners on your BlackBerry (there's also a link to a zip file which you can use to install it via Desktop Manager).

You may need to set your phone's APN settings if it can't contact the server.

If the error you're getting is saying it retrieved corrupted directory information, that problem has been fixed (there was a problem with the directory data the app retrieves from the server).

FYI, I just released version 0.6.1 one this morning, it's available at BBScanner.com: Listen to police and fire scanners on your BlackBerry - Download , you can install it via an OTA download or using Desktop Manager.

Is this still being updated/supported? Was thinking about trying it on my BB 8130, I guess I'll go ahead and try it out and edit this post with what happens.

Confirmed as 100% operational on an Alltel BB Pearl 8130 with 4.5OS.

It's a very nice program, I didn't realize that it fetched the audio from websites that these frequency owners stream their communication to...I thought it actually read individual frequencies that you can input. Oh well, it's still a badass program. Just wish more places streamed their communications to these websites, because I live in a small town and the nearest communication I can get is highway patrol.

A lot of major cities stream their frequencies to the websites this prog uses, you can listen to them in the Top 20 section on the program. Chicago and Los Angeles sound really busy, haha. I didn't realize it's only a 14day free trial that eventually costs 2.99, didn't see that in this thread anywhere. It's a nice prog though, so I'd be inclined to pay the price...especially if I can talk the local fire chief in to streaming his frequencies to one of those websites so I can hear local chatter away from my radio/scanners at home.

Most of the feeds are provided by people using their own scanners and not by the departments themselves.

If you have an extra scanner you're not using you could provide a feed for your area for RadioReference.com. If you provide a feed it'll appear in the BBScanner directory automatically. For more information on providing a feed go to Becoming a Live Audio Feed Provider on RadioReference.com

Thanks for the info.

I personally won't be able to do this because I live in a "black hole" for internet...my options are dialup or tethering, no cable/dsl/satellite/wireless broadband here. I'll speak with the Fire Chief and see if he'll do this for our fire communication. There's a bunch of firefighters with blackberries that would love this program!

My favorite app! Works great on my 8350i NEXTEL BB. I have my own audio stream set up from my home. When I'm on the road out of town flying, I can listen in to my scanner at home. Mainly friends on the local ham radio repeaters.
