What's your preferred methodology? I want to be able to filter my contacts by my close friends, business, girls, etc. Note - I use Outlook, but I haven't yet synced my BB with it. Will that task then make it sensible to edit the Outlook categories, which would then be mirrored as Groups on my Storm, or not? Or is there another way, not considering the tedious contact-by-contact method.

Groups won't sync with Outlook, Filters/Categories will.

But as far as Groups create that it more convenient for you to use your BB!

Can I create Groups in any way on my PC that will sync to my phone?

I think there may be some confusion with the terminology. Note that I may be making a mistake because I'm going under the assumption that the contacts on the Storm work the same way as they do on the other BBs I work with. Categories sync accross from Outlook to the BB. You can then set filters on the categories. Like if I select "Parrotheads", then only my Parrothead friends will show up in the address book until I remove or change the filter. I would definitely clean up my categories on the PC instead of the BB. As a matter of fact, I go through my contacts in Outlook a couple of times a year (or more often if things seem to be off) and clean up categories and dupes in Outlook then when I sync to the BB, everything is good.

Groups are lists used for sending email to multiple people at once. The groups as pointed out don't sync across. But once you get your address book set up, you can create groups on your BB for frequently used lists.
