Ok so take this for what's it worth. My blackberry is basically my life. When I forget it somewhere, I panic! If I don't have it with me or near me I go looking for it. I'm very dependent on the information and for it to function properly. If you get the picture then you'll understand why I am writing this to you all.
MAKE 100% SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING BACKED UP BEFORE INSTALLING!
I did my backup and then proceeded with the instructions. After 20 mins I got a 597 Error message which means that the blackberry cannot function any further and I have no OS on the device (at least that is what the search told me). I did a search on this site
and it was great to get feedback from someone else who had the same error. I followed his/her instructions on reloading the os and it worked well.
The download of the os after the crash took a maximum of 20 minutes. The device took close to 10 mins to power on afterwards so please be patient. I was starting to get nervous and then the ROGERS sign popped up on my device.
With a new device I restored my messages, calender and address book. After reloading the one and only theme that I like (bphone today - if someone has anything better let me know) I felt like it was my device again.
Despite losing my apps, I've got tons of memory and a much faster device. My calender unfortunately doubled up when I synched it with my laptop however performing another search on this site showed me how to delete the calender and resynching it. So far all is working well.
I can't say the os is better or worse but it has sorted out my need of increased speed, more memory and quick load on some applications. I'm loading one app at a time to ensure that I have sufficient memory left for all the functions.
Overall for a first day of testing the upgrade despite the early setback has gone well.
Thanks for the post and of course for the instructions. It is very important to backup your device beforehand.
Enjoy if you decide to upgrade
