Hi, my BB 8320 will be arriving this Monday. I just called up my local Telco (Starhub) and spoke to one of the blackberry customer service officers and he was discouraging me to use the BIS email as he said that it is better for me to simply set up all the various emails (eg gmail, yahoo etc) onto my BB.

The reason being that for the BIS email, I need to have my phone switched on all the time and in any case my phone is off, the emails directed would not be coming thru and that it would not be stored anywhere so its better to just set up the various email accountss separately on my BB instead.

He mentioned that it is also easier instead of going to use the "forward" function for all other emails into my BIS email account. Is it true? What do you guys think?

First, look at blackberryfaq.com. Read the articles on BIS and the article on why a data plan.

Though BES is the other option, BIS is what you need for blackberry data services, including email. Without the BIS - which is a specific blackberry data service - you will not be able to use blackberry-branded data applications.

email is pushed to the blackberry. It is not downloaded in the sense that you have been used to. You will be given a carrier-provided email account, and you will also be able to set up your other email accounts on BIS.

Obviously they have no idea what they are talking about. If you want email you need either BIS or BES. If you don't have a Corp. BB there is really no need to have BES.

BIS is most definitely the way to go. If the device is off, all mail will arrive once you turn it back on.

Thks guys....so actually I do not need to forward all my pop3 onto my BIS email right? I was reading around and came to know that once I apply for BIS, I would be able to use Blackberry applications and I would be able to set up to 10 pop3 on my blackberry. does that mean all my pop3 email would be pushed to my blackberry? The reason why I asked was because I was reading this the tip by Mark Rejhon on What Are The Methods of Receiving Email On BlackBerry?

and it mentioned things like to configure my pop3 account to forward the emails to the BIS email account etc. This actually contradict what the customer service guy had said to me.

It seems like the more I read the more confuse I am. So probably I really need to play around with it when my phone comes.

When you get the device and your BIS account has been activated, look on it for the setup internet email wizard icon, and go from there. Generally, you will only need to enter your email address and password and blackberry servers do the rest.

Mark most likely knows a little bit more than the phone rep you spoke with. I think I would go with what he had to say. Just guessing however.

Best thing to do when you get the blackberry is play with it. Click through all the menus, drill down, look at all the options. Forget what you've been used to and don't have any expectations about the way the blackberry should work.

yup precisely. I am currently using the E71 and this BB will be my very first. Hopefully I can get use to it. HOpefully my 8320 would be version 45 as it could read and save words.

The current issue now is to get hold of an application which could allow me to edit words at the minimum.
