Same thing just happened to me. Damm AT&T!
I'm uninstalling AppWorld on my Bold to see if it comes back.
The weird thing is that this did NOT happen on my Curve 8900 when I installed AppWorld :-/
EDIT: No such lick. Still disabled.

You can restore a database backup from a previous install but that's about it

I just got my Bold a few days ago, on stock firmware or whatever. 4.6.0.167 I still have (and always have had) BBMaps - NA in my service book. I have never even setup my PC to sync. Could it still work? Just wondered before I went through it all.

I just (accidentally) found another way of launching it. I'm running 4.6.0.247 (418) with BIS (and have app world installed). Using Neosistec's CarFinder application, if you click "Go Position", you'll have a button for "BB Maps". I clicked that, and it launched BBMaps.
Since they can launch it from an application, perhaps a simple/stupid application that does nothing but make an API call to launch BBMaps could be created. I've been thinking about getting my feet wet with BB development. Perhaps this could be an easy first project.

Thank you, 6502programmer, for this solve. It ticked me off no end last month when AT&T killed my connection to BB Maps. Thanks to you, I now have my BB Maps back!

If QuickLaunch would call BB Maps that way, I'd be happy. Unfortunately, it just says "Maps has been disabled." However, as you say, other apps can call it without errors, like WeatherBug in my case.

The icon for Blackberry Maps disappeared from my Bold also. Based on reading this thread, conclude that installing Blackberry AppWorld is what caused it. Would love it if someone can find a way to retrieve it.

It's so like AT&T to play money games like this with people.

It is NOT blackberry app world that caused this problem.
It is an AT&T service book that was pushed through denying access to the BB maps application.

Yes, on Bold with .266 and Blackberry Apps the Weatherbug maps brings up BB Maps. It also shows up on Applications in setup but no icon.

Woops, neither Weatherbug nor Carfinder can bring up Blackberry Maps. They are definitely "NA" on .266 Instead they bring up an old Google map even though Google Maps are deleted.

I just got BB maps installed using the directions on this thread. I have v4.6.0.167 installed. I cannot find the icon for BBmaps but Weatherbug and Poynt can access BBmaps.

I was also able to load BBMaps through Poynt App. I'm on 4.6.0.247. Simply installed BBMaps on DM and already had Poynt installed. Changed the Map setting in Poynt from Google Maps to BB Maps, I think I originally changed it TO Google Maps. I have no idea if I can use all of the features when ran through Poynt, I have never used BB Maps before. I will probably delete it and just use Google Maps to save space. This is very shady on ATT's part. Anyone think a mass quantity of complaints would do any good?

Just a quick question, is it possible to have the service provider here ( i am using an unlocked ATT set in Asia) to send the service book to be so that i can use BBMaps without doing any modification?

If ATT thinks that I am going to buy attNav, they are hallucinating. This type of nickle and diming customer means that I will not renew my contract and go get some other provider.
ATT does not OWN my phone.

BBMaps are there, I am using it in Poynt app. But I am using Google maps in Contacts. I am on the latest version.
Also, in camera, even though geo-tagging is enabled, I can not geo-tag pictures.

www (dot) blackberryforums (dot) com/gps-mapping/91383-how-get-bbmaps-show-my-blackberry (dot) html
...Except that with the Bold, you need to edit the text file on your PC called BlackBerry.alx (as the link above references older models). Note that this editing isn't for the faint-hearted. (Save a copy of the old version of the .alx under a different name just in case.) Only then was I able to get BB maps to appear as an application in Desktop Manager. It's as if this.alx file suppresses Desktop Manager from showing Maps in the list of available applications for the Bold or on AT&T. (The bastards!)
Next, after you've found Maps in Desktop Manager, it's a little scary to tell DM that you want to install Maps onto your Bold. Right away, you'll get a warning message on your BB basically asking your permission to rebuild its system. Not to worry though. All your previous downloads, mail settings, messages, etc. are preserved. Go get a cup of coffee as this update takes a while (~20 minutes).
While you're at it, you might as well have downloaded and selected a new BB Bold theme to install at the same time. Save yourself another step (and more waiting).
Note that I didn't need to uninstall Google maps from my BB before doing the above. I left it on there.
Finally, go to Settings (wrench icon)-->Options-->Theme and turn-on the new theme.
Only after I did all the above could I see the Maps compass icon and use BB Maps.
...And guess what? After spending all that time, I found out that I like Google maps much better. Meh! Google maps seems to show more detail; and it looks more familiar. Moral: to each his own I guess. For me, the effort turned to be only a phyrric victory to defeat AT&T's intent.
Best of luck to you, though!

I deleted vendor.xml per the instruction in the URL you mentioned. But I do not have lbs.alx file. In fact, the BB related folders, I do not have any text files with string "_vendorID".

I was able to get BB Maps back on my phone and working.
I downloaded a beta 5.0 OS, but it wasn't working good enough for me. I wiped my phone and reloaded .266 and restored my backups. Well, THERE IT WAS! It worked fine. Seemed fully functional, unlike what Poynt would load for BB Maps which was nothing but "search". Well, my AOL email wasn't on my phone, so I knew it wouldn't last. I resent my service books and sure enough, BB Maps disabled again.
So, if you wipe your phone, reload and don't resend service books, BB Maps should work fine. :p
