Hi all!

I originally posted this message on this thread a few weeks ago, but it seems it was just getting buried in all the other replies because no one even acknowledged I had written anything! Hope this is cool to start a new thread and get other people's thoughts...

I've noticed my Pearl 8100 has been clearing my call logs and SMS inbox EVEN THOUGH I had plenty of space! 21MB! One time, I noticed pretty quickly what it had done, and coincidentally I had only just checked the free space, because I'm doing it regularly now (a precautionary measure). After the device did its neat little trick, I checked again and it said 19MB. What the smeg is going on?

and does anyone know how to work out which apps are actually using the memory? something seems to be gobbling up my memory pretty quickly! It went from 20MB to 10MB free in just a couple of days. I did a battery pull reset and it went straight back up to 23MB!

I'd rather not have to do such a reset every couple of days, so how can i find out which apps are the culprits?

I have seen users lose their call logs etc, with over 21MB of file free.

I don't know what apps you have loaded... check viigo, any mapping apps, and some like chat apps log the convos (google chat) which can create quite large databases.

To answer your original question, to find the apps running in the background, homescreen then menu, switch application, and all those (there should be 5) are the ones running.

Great! Thanks guys. I use Google Maps, and that's about it. I can't see how that will cause data to be lost when there's plenty of free memory though. Surely if Google Maps or any other app is using up all the memory, this would show itself with a low "File Free" value, and then data would only be lost when memory totally runs out.

And yes, I knew about the application switching, but it doesn't give a break down of which apps are using which portion of the system memory. A pie chart of this data would be cool.

Some updates...

MemoryUp Personal Edition doesn't really seem to help. Maybe recovers 200KB or so after a Quick Boost, but that's nothing compared to the MBs I recover when doing a battery pull reset.

Just downloading Aerize Optimizer 2008 now so I'll be back soon with more info.

Quick update... I didn't bother with any mem cleaning apps in the end. I just upgraded my OS as per the sticky topic on this site, and I haven't had problems since! I was using 4.2. Now on 4.5 and it's generally much slicker and more stable all round.
