I just got a BB BOLD then found out there is no 3G connection in my city. Ionly get EDGE and in most places at best 3 bars. internet connection connection is no better than with the blacberry 8320 on Iwireless, which I just left. Should i keep my phone or try to get another service provider? Thanks for your advice
See if there's a grace period with AT&T if you want to return your device. But first check out the other service providers in your area to see if you might get better service. If not, I'd probably just keep and enjoy the Bold.
I live In Waterloo, Iowa. The agent online told me I had 3G connection in my zip code so I terminated my contract with Iowa wireless. I still have 25 days to try the phone.
3G is pretty much over glorified. Internet is enhanced and simultaneous Data/Voice is available but without 3G the Bold is still an excellent choice.
Consider that there are quite a few of us who have purposefully optioned to use EDGE only (2G network ). This is possible though not allowed through ATT. Ironically, your choice of the Bold without 3G would perhaps be better evaluated as the Bold with no 3G. If the Internet (browsing etc.) is primary for you then probably the Bold on ATT without an accessible 3G network would be a poor choice.
Depends on why and if you really need the speed. As far as a comparison to EVDO, speeds are about the same, but it really depends on the connection, your distance to the tower and a few other things, all of which are essentially outside your control.
3G has a higher theoretical max than the current iteration of EVDO (Rev A).

Just another reason to do your homework yourself! Rule 1, never trust coverage maps or agents when discussing coverage.
My opinion, 3G benefits are voice quality, handset downloads and tethering.
A friend has the 8820 and side by side I don't get to web sites any faster than he does. Downloading voicemail (mp3) are faster. Tethering is much faster if you use it.
