I need a dash mount that works for my 8900. I prefer something made specifically for my 8900 but am open to other ideas as long as it holds the phone while having a charger plugged in w/o unplugging and plugging back in. It also needs to mount somehow to a Panavise which is installed in my car. I've tried looking around and ProClip has one but it looks like there is a cut out for the charger and it would require removal of charger to remove and replace. My phone is plugged in while I'm in my car and is in and out of the holster a LOT so it has to be something that allows it to be left in. I've looked at a couple universal ones but none seem to fit my needs well.

I'm open to ideas here as the selection for these phones is pretty limited so what do you have?

I’ve been searching for the same thing. Since I spend a lot of time in the car, I need a system that leaves the phone facing me. This excludes most of the holsters currently available as they all fit the 8900 with the keyboard facing in.

I have an old mount from a Sony Ericsson cradle. The base works very well. So, what I have been doing for the last several phones is to bond a new phone-specific holster to this mount.

To keep this short, I have been searching for a plastic holster for the 8900 to maintain this scheme. But alas, there are none available yet.

I did find this on eBay and bought it. (It works with a holsters belt-clip.) Since it is not phone specific, it should serve me well through the next several phones. For now, I’ll couple it with the Speck leather holster for the 8900.



FYI - The magnet inside the holster will need to be removed to prevent the 8900 from going into sleep mode. That’s easy enough to do though

Agreed, but one does not yet seem to exist. That holster (For the 81XX) was made by Cellet. I've checked their website several times but they don't make one for the 8900. Yet.

Only holster I'm aware of that works with the 8900 facing out is the Speck Leather. (Shown with the 83XX, but they make it for the 8900 as well. Which you can find at most T-Mobile stores.) Again though, you’ll need to remove the magnet to prevent the 8900 from going into sleep mode. If this matters to you.

I saw that holster in one of the stores I was in but the side lips seemed to hold it VERY tight. So much so that upon trying to remove it it marred my BSE full body skin so I put it back. If those could be bent a little it would work but I didn't look closer since I was more concerned with my skin at that point.

I don’t have mine yet, but I did look at it once. It appeared to me that the base was either metal or plastic. If it's metal, then the sides can easily be bent outward to lessen the pressure on the phone. If it's plastic, then using a heat gun or even a hair dryer to soften it a bit should yield the same result.

I’ll try to pick one up later today and post a review.

I went today to see it again and ruled it out because the sides that hold the phone actually cover the charge port which is a no go for me.

I picked one up last night. It's really my only option right now. You're right about it being too tight and also covering the charge port. I'm going to hit it with a heat gun to loosen up the sides and see what that does. As for the charge port, I’ll just trim back the wing a Dremel tool.

If you're really up for it, Bury in the UK makes a cradle for the 8900. It’s a bit bulky and includes BT and charging functions. Which I don’t need. It’s also about $65US.



In short, a good in-car solution does not yet exist for the 8900. I’m sure someone will make a holster for it soon. I’ll live with my compromise until they do.

I have mount systems by ProClip. Custom-no holes for your auto installation and a custom holder for the Blackberry. Rather pricey but very quality equipmnet.

The cradle for the 8900 with the adjustable base is $34.99US. (Vehicle specific mounts are extra.)

I use this for my 8900 on my bike. Should be fine in the car. I got it from www.ram-mount.com

I've been using RAM products for years (Have their GPS mount that I use on my street and off road motorcycles) and almost purchased that cradle. But, given all the other universal cradles on the market, it's a bit overpriced. But, they do make great products.
