That's not true. I downloaded OZ on my BB way before I had Opera Mini. I just went to Media Net, clicked on Messaging, clicked on Mobile IM and Oz downloaded. I have never had a problem using it. You do need a media plan though.

I have problem with OZ on my BB 8310 with AT&T service and keep telling me that error message" communication problem". Any reason why? Maybe only use T-mobile with BB if working? Thanks

T-Mobile has a Blackberry feature enabler. That is probably why it doesn;t work for you.

Hi,
I have a similar problem on AT&T. I swapped my SIM which has data with my daughter's pearl that doesn't have data. Went to MediaNet and downloaded OZ, signed on and everything worked. Then I swapped my sim back to my phone and I was getting SMS from an odd number at about three a minute.
I downloaded Oz to my phone and now my daughter get no gprs data connection when she tried to log on with her phone. Any ideas?

Oz won't work without some sort of a data plan (or TMobile's feature enabler.) It will never sign in.

This is a post from AT&T blackberry forum: (Opera Mini NOT needed when downloading OZ)

this is a little easier (you need unlimited internet, and remember, your i-m's count as text messaging NOT INTERNET, so it would be a good idea to get unlimited messaging attached to your account)

go into your media net
go to the bottom of the page and click the link that says mail and messaging
once youve gotten there, lick the MOBILE IM link
it will promp you to download oz messenger
Once the download is complete, go into your applications folder and youll see an icon with a grey and blue person.
click that and it will give you a list of 3 messaging carriers and you pick which one you want to use and enter in your username and password
just like you would on your computer. and youll be golden!

You have to be careful. Just because you don;t have a BB Data Plan on AT&T doesn;t mean you can not get to the internet and be charged. Many agents will default you to Pay Per Use when they set you up so that you can still get data without the BB Data Plan. If like me you don't use the net enough to be worth $30 a month then you are good on PPU. Just remember the odds are when you log onto OZ it may start the kb counter and the following month you will get a surprise bill. That's my fear...lol.
An alternative that I have not seen mentioned is on Yahoo IM, just Go Mobile you will recieve IM via SMS and can reply.

hey guys. I have at&t blackberry curve 8310 and i have OZ messaging which i got thru media net and its just great!. I have unlimited data plan as well but before i didnt have any data plan i just had unlimited txt messaging and i never got a high bill, it only charges for ur txt msgin so u dnt have to have a data plan
