I don't disagree that something went wrong here, but where's the line in the sand for holding the doctor accountable? the analogy that keeps coming to mind for me is: i pay an artist to design something for me. they come up with lots of ideas - good and bad - but the one I choose is the most but-ugly of them all. So who is to blame - the designer for producing something but-ugly because i told him to, or me for not knowing what looked good to begin with?

All I can say is that the doctor could have (probly should have) asked the tough questions and steered this mother in another direction, but at the end of the day, it isn't his decision it's hers. If she is really as obsessed as she was before she had 14 kids, how do we know she wouldn't have just kept popping one out every year for the next 14? And realistically, if the doctor says no to the IVF, she just waltzs to whoever the next doctor is that will take her $$$.

I think this is more on the mother than any doctor.

The doctor does have the choice to refuse to administer the treatment. And he should have. So I can see where he is liable he knew what the chances are of having a litter of babies.

Doctor should have said no. Only problem, as many others have said, is that there are now these newborns that can't help themselves and should not be left to grow up in poverty and poor health. Only way I would donate is if there was some kind of trustee involved that would pay the bills that directly affect the children. The mother should get nothing.

I agree that the mother should have known better. But as Dawg stated, the doctor could have refused to go ahead with the procedure. People put trust into doctors for such treatments. They are more educated in the field than we are. He knew more about the procedure than she probably did. He has the right to make a judgment call.

When I tore my ACL a little over a year ago, I went to the doctor and asked him for his advice on what procedure to take. No surgery, use some of my own muscle tissue to replace the torn ACL, use a donor graft to replace my torn ACL. I put my trust into him that he would make the right call.

Again, he isn't entirely to blame. As you stated, she could have went elsewhere to get the procedure done. He is still partially responsible IMO.

I have no problem with someone wanting to have a large family - 14 or 40 kids. As long as she/they can provide for them ON THEIR OWN.

Don't come asking for me or MY government for MY money to raise YOUR kids. In this economy it's hard enough to raise my own kids with the money that I earned.

If you can't afford to raise them, then close your damn legs and GET A JOB.

Wii! Octo-mom Nadya Suleman goes shopping for video games

I know it is probably for her kids, but still. C'mon. 14 kids and you're shopping for a Wii?

This woman has major issues. I read she also had cosmetic injections -- her lips I think. Give her money? No way in hell. She already gets food stamps and disability payments for 3 of her first 6 kids. I feel sorry for the children.

What a shock, I would've never saw any of this coming. No surprise on her already getting payments from the government, no surprise the doctor is shady, no surprise she was looking for handouts.

Whoever said the doctor isn't to blame is wrong, it's their job to ask questions on the living situation, the parents mental state and current situation and all that for these kind of planned pregnancies.

Another no surprise that will probably come out eventually is the doctor and this loser chick conspiring this whole thing to get money after the kids were born and split it in some manner.

I'd like to know where she got the money for the in vitro fertilization. It likely cost upwards of $100,000.

From what I read, she got it from a disability settlement for an on-the-job injury.
