Default Changing BES Question

Please Login to Remove!

I am going to be changing to a new BES. All of my mailboxes will be migrated by the exchange hosting company (Mailstreet) to the new server. I know I have to wipe all Blackberrys and then perform a new Enterprise Activation. Question:
(1) Will all of the Blackberry Settings be restored, such as Bookmarks, speed dials, etc. I know that if I were to wipe the BB now, and do a new Enterprise Activation to the SAME server, all these settings would be restored. I am wondering if they will be when the activation is performed on the new server.

(2) What is the best way to handle this to make the set up of the BBs as easy as possible?

I appreciate the advice.

I would run a backup of all devices before wiping. Then after you activate them, just run a restore to get everything back.

Wirelessly posted (8300)

Perform a change device action not just a simple standard backup otherwise you may lose your 3rd party apps. Profiles may or may not transfer... Unfortunately.

Are you changing to a less restricitive it policy or the same? If I recall correctly you do not need to wipe the device it will just adopt the new it policy.

Wipping the device using jl_commander is used when you have a locked down bb(used say from ebay) and you want to wipe out any exisiting it policy

Nope, you need to do the restore BEFORE you start the activation. If you do it afterwards, you won't be able to do the restore as the device is then controlled by the BES.

If I perform the restore BEFORE the activation on the new server, then what is the point of wiping the BB in the first place? Why not just do an Enterprise Activation to the new server? My understanding is that the wipe is necessary to prevent duplicates when I activate on the new server (since I am changing servers completely). Is the wipe entirely unnecessary?

By the way, when I use the term "wipe," I am talking about the "Wipe Handheld" feature found under Options | Security Options | General Settings | Wipe Handheld. One of the people who responded to my question seemed to think I was using jl_commander, which is not what I have in mind.

The wipe is necessary because else the device will error and not accept the IT Policy from the new BES.

Moved to BES Admin Corner, because that's where the BES Admins live, and they rock.

If I follow this procedure, namely backup, wipe, restore, then activate on new Exchange Server, will duplicates of the calendar, contacts, etc. be created? the reason I ask is because the new activation will be on a new BES which does not "know" about the BBs. Thanks.
