Default Question Regarding OS Update

Please Login to Remove!

I followed the instructions in the sticky to update to version .216. I got as far as deleting the vendor.xml file. The only problem is I can't find the Loader.exe file anywhere. I don't mind staying with verson .167 because it's not worth changing the OS if it's just going to lead to more problems. But since I deleted the vendor.xml file and I didn't actually upgrade to .216, have I screwed things up royally? I searched "unable to find loader.exe file" but it didn't turn up any info. If this has already been covered, I apologize.

It's in the same directory as vendor.xml and don't worry about deleting vendor.xml file.

Thanks for replying. I searched and searched but the file is definitely not there. I deleted the vendor.xml file. I read on another forum that it can be done through Desktop Manager but when I try, it says no update is necessary for my OS. I tried deleting and reinstalling version .216 several times also but the file never appears in the apploader folder.

Don't make me do a screen shot, it's definitely there

Just follow this:
**Make sure you can VIEW hidden and system files in your PC**
1. Backup your phone.
1a. Back up 3rd Party apps (Optional)
2. Install your OS (in this case .216)
3. Del vendor.xml in program files>common files>research in motion>apploader

Now you can proceed in 2 ways:
1. clicking on the Loader.exe file in the same directory above or..
2. Launch DM and it should prompt you for software update.

I checked. I can view hidden/system files. In DM(4.7), version .216 is listed. When I check it and click next, it says no software update is available for my device. I triple checked very slowly, but I don't see the Loader.exe file.

Default The steps are listed below

I have done this many times, (I think 8 times) and I am now on OS version v4.6.0.228.

The steps are:
1. Make sure your Bold is not connected to your PC, and Desktop Manager is not running
2. Download the OS update setup file
3. Run the OS update setup file, by clicking on the executable (*.exe) that you downloaded
4. Go to the app loader folder, which is here:
C:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
5. In there, you will find a file called "Vendor.xml". Delete that.
6. Now, connect your Bold via USB to your PC
7. Now, either start Desktop Manager or just click the Loader.exe icon, in that same app loader folder. If that Loader.exe file is not present, something strange happened. Maybe you accidently deleted it. Try looking in your Recycle Bin for it. If you find it there, right-click to restore it.

Really, though, even if that loader is not present, I think Desktop Manager should be able to load a new OS onto your bold, without the presence of Loader.exe.

Hope this helps.

If loader.exe is not there, just go to control panel, highlight Desktop manager and click unistall/change. then when it loads, click on repair.
it will restore all files that are suppose to be there, and therefore the loader.exe.
then continue as above, deleting the vendor.xml file etc

Thank everyone. I managed to get it done. I was using DM 4.7. I switched to 4.6 and everything worked fine.
