Hey boys and girls!
Just thought I'd ask if anyone has had any experience with BES 5.0 yet?

And if so, first thoughts?

Stop it you, you will get us all excited again! FWIW I heard from a carrier engineer the other day that he just saw RIM's roadmap and 5 is pencilled in for Q3/4, and the carrier is expecting it to be more like next year. I wasn't going to mention it, as 5 rumours are more frequent than praise for IT depts., but as you started it......

every heard of an NDA ? it generally prevents people from talking about things like this in public.

That said, I have no exp with 5.0 and when we asked recently if we could get on the beta were told it was closed, so that tells me it should be close.

I did one of those BES 5.0 focus groups at WES last year and from what I saw of it, it looked nice. Still can't believe it still isn't out. Cool new features too..

Default Bes 5

We had a meeting with RIM on friday regarding BES 5.

The guys from RIM UK said that scheduled release date for BES5 is 2009-04-01 (no joke!). It still might be available no earlier than on WES

Interesting information, that might be not widely known:
* BES 5 will need a lot more memory: 1-2 GB more than 4.1.6
* Special BES 5 features will need 5.0 firmware. 5.0 firmware will be released for all 8xxx devices (excluding only one 87xx device (8707?) with UMTS)
* It will not be possible to migrate software configurations as it is completely new code
* If you add one BES 5 to your 4.1.x infrastructure, you will not be able to add another 4.1.x due to schema changes
* Planned features for a 5.x (x>0) are support for Oracle and MySQL as Configuration DB

Greetings,
Neo3000

P.S. No, I am NOT under NDA!

I've heard alot of the new 5.0 features will be web based, so the need for increased resources will probably be needed, I also heard it will be very different from what we are seeing now.
